Default 5 speed trans (5r55n) questions

Hi all,
My 2001 S type with the 5 speed trans is playing up a bit.
Symptoms include:
When selecting D takes up to 30s to engage 1st, but if I move selector towards 4 it engages immediately, and in quite a rough manner. R selects normally.
1 to 2 shift very occasionally normal, but mostly very delayed/feels like it's slipping. Occasionally it does this shift quite sharply. Works best by accelerating very gently but still not right.
At 100km/hr from time to time it will start shifting between 4 and 5 as if it can't stay in 5.
I'm aware of the solenoid bore issues in the 5r55n trans, and expect this is part of the shifting issue.
Are there any other common faults I should be considering given the above symptoms?
Thanks.

How many kilometres on the vehicle?

Has the gearbox ever been serviced?

Yes, the servo bores can become worn and cause bands to slip. There is a procedure for boring the case and inserting bronze sleeves to fix the condition.

Thanks for the link to the bore repair sleeves!
Yes I should have mentioned the car has done 186000km/116000 miles, and I've done 2 drain and fills in quick succession (with a filter change) about 10000km ago.
I neglected to mention it also has a background droning/whining noise from time to time which I assume is pump noise.

@Josef15111, the servo bores are on the outside of the gearbox case and apply the reverse and overdrive bands. Because the servo bores are aluminium, the servo pistons can create a wear pattern that cause the servos to not fully tighten the band(s) cause premature wear.

The gearbox would need to be removed and the servo bores bored to accept the sleeves.

Before going any further with a diagnosis, check the fluid level following the procedure in the Workshop Manual.
