Welcome to the forum. The 5r55n is the 5 -speed automatic transmission that the earlest S-Types came with ( 1999- 2001). It is a Ford transmission and the later " facelift " S-Types ( 2002-2008 ) came with ZF 6-speed transmissions. Some S-Type owners have had problems with the 5r55n transmission but I have found mine to be trouble-free for the 10 years I have owned my S-type. I did change the ATF at 60K miles and I would recommend that service strongly for the so-called sealed for life unit.
