I am almost at 80,000 miles. Other than the usual problems with this model, the car seems very nice still. I've driven it approximately 33,000 miles and plan to keep it a while. Happy Jagging.
ya, just had to ask...

Your car looks great! Glad to hear that you are enjoying it. These cars seem happiest when being used. I bought my X300 with a lot of miles on it, but put 11,000 miles on it last year. It needs a little bushing work but runs great at 153k. Last of the straight sixes makes it special to me.
That is one pretty jag. Does it amaze anyone else how the leather holds up in these cars? 15 year old seats still look new, Everything else I ever owned with leather got ratty and natty after 6 years or so, worn dye, worn seams, etc.

Doc,
The orginal seats began to crack after a refurb. The back is orginal. I had the front seats and the headliner redone. Headliner is 3 years old and the seats faces in 2016. The sides of the seats are original too. The shop made the faces and then refoamed the seats too. That makes a huge difference in how good it sits. I could have waited, but I had the money saved up so I jumped on it. You can see in this older photo where it was starting to crack too much.
Not to rain on the parade here, but is celebrating ~80k a thing with these cars? or 100k for that matter?
If I can't get a car (previously owned, to boot) to ~150k w/o major expenses I consider it a failure of a car.
I had a whole paragraph of vehicle history typed up but nobody wants to read all that.
Long story short -- Two of my last 5 or 6 vehicles made it past 200k w/o significant expenses. And I'm working on a 3rd rt now.
The wife's S-type is about 105, but just now tripped the MiL, restricted performance, and 0171/0174 codes.
yes its a thing when the car still shows no age or defects , and wearing the thick end of 17 or so years service, such as this one .
plenty of cars are written off at a very young age . some rot ,
others just mistreated and some live on .
this one is a survivor and looking mint . in my eyes something to celebrate !
some one obviously loves it .

My next project is front end ball joints and arms. I ordered them in a kit from mac auto today. Upper arms, lower joints, tie rod ends, and anti sway bars. One price $149. If you need anti sway bars or tie rod ends, I don't need those. Mine are new. Let me know.

I would normally agree, but this car took 3 years to get to 3000 miles. Any damage was from NON-use and some repair is needed such as rubber seals and grease fittings. The drive train is virtually perfect but suspension rubber is going fast.
I've driven the car about 35.000 with no surprises. Most of what needs to be done to these drive trains, I've learned here and I also have the 5000 page plus repair/technical manual on my computer. It has been a good experience as this is my first used car in 30 years.

No, but...

It depends what the previous owners have done / not done. E.g. many fail to service items that need servicing so if the car then fails expensively do you blame the car? And so on.
Frankly there is no point posting meaningless all-encompassing statements like you did.

FWIW I meant no offense, at all. It's obviously a great looking car for those miles.
It just caught my attention as we are well over 100k on ours, and hoping to take it to 130+. Not quite as pristine as your '00 though.

Of course not. I have generally been fortunate enough in my car shopping to identify those cars and avoid them, or at least have a strong suspicion about what they needed to get them back on the right track.
My worst experience was with an Aviator I bought largely because its dealer installed transmission only had about 5k on it. Ironically, it was that transmission that cost me about $2k over the next 30k miles.

It's a "discussion" forum. Discussions often include opinions. You didn't like mine. Super.
A bit of clarification -- since I do almost all my own repair/maintenance there isn't a whole lot I consider a major expense.
