90K Maintenance ?
Hello, my 2005 S-Type 4.2L V8 (Non R
) just hit 90K about a week ago...currently at about 90,168. I took my s-type to get an oil change at 88,890 miles and the auto shop (a regular auto shop) gave me a list of "Jaguar recommended maintenance" for once it hits 90K...which basically says inspect your tires, fluids, windshield wipers, filters, drive belt, brake pads, battery, lights, etc...says nothing about spark plugs, hoses, sensors...I'd like to get 90K maintenance done but definitely not at Jag dealer prices. I'd do it myself if it's simple enough even though I had absolutely no transmission knowledge and successfully completed trans fluid/pan change on my ZF 6HP26 by reading directions.
Anyone have a proper list of what maintenance should be done at 90K for an 05 S-Type 4.2L V8 (Non R)...the list the auto shop seems too "simple"
I changed the trans fluid/pan not even 1K miles ago.
I changed the fuel filter not even 500 miles ago.
Engine oil is still ok..how often is a change recommended using full synthetic ?
Should I take it to another local shop and have them do whatever has to be done? They look like they can handle it...got a nice quality looking shop...been in business for ever (looks can be deceiving LOL) or I could take it to the Jag dealership which is a 2 hour drive and pay PREMIUM price.
If I were to take it to a local shop I would purchase majority of what needs to be replaced online and just pay for the labor.
I consider taking her to an auto shop because I really don't have tools...and tools aren't cheap. Neither is labor but somewhat cheaper.
Thanks
I'll also add this question here instead of posting a new thread if anyone would like to answer:
I went to go pick up my brother from his job site yesterday and boy was it hot outside so I left my s-type on with AC...and felt a little rumble...not an earthquake but enough to catch my attention and looked at the RPM and it moved a little bit when it rumbled...only happened once...any ideas ? Thanks once again

There's nothing magic about the 90,000-mile mark. My S-Type is approaching 83,000 miles and is due for its next oil & filter change and tire rotation at 84,000 miles. I do plan on a ZF drain-and-fill in the second half of 2014....
At 90,000 miles I'll do my normal oil & filter change and tire rotation. I'll also take a good look at the spark plugs and the serpentine belt. If I remember correctly, the Passport to Service manual calls for the spark plugs to be replaced at 100,000 miles and the belt to be replaced at 150,000 miles. But it is always a good idea to keep a regular eye on all of the maintenance items you listed once the miles have rolled up to the point where our cars are now....

Oil changes are shown as being due at a 10K mile interval. There is no special mention of a different interval when using synthetic nor does Jaguar require, recommend or mention use of synthetics.
The maintenance sheet or passport to service booklet is a useful as a baseline for service. The sheet might be available as a download in the sticky threads at the top of this section.
Whether you are at 100,000 or 100,001 miles is not really material. Just make a photocopy of it, stroke out the ones you have done recently, then do the rest.
Certain items will not be mentioned that are worthy of consideration. For example differential lubricant.
A good way to pick up on these is to read the section and see what other members think. Another is to visually scan your car from front to back and visualise every liquid in the vehicle, then change them all. Same for all mechanical components that could wear, including semi-cosmetic such as hinge lubrication.
On the subject of tools, a mid level set of metric tools in Craftsman brand is not expensive on sale. They will last decades and outlast your car. A cheap investment. Probably less than 2 hours of labouir charges at a dealer or 3 hours of labour at a normal garage.
Add a set of Torx bits if not included, and you can do most jobs.
Working on your car personally is a good way to keep up with items that need attention soon, but not right now. It also makes doing those items affordable, whereas you might let it ride if you have to pay a garage to do the same work.
The grumble when the AC was on was likely the compressor clutch engaging and disengaging. This is quite a bit more noticable at idle than when under way.
BTW, a member once wrote that the way to stay in love with your car is to never let more than three outstanding maintenance items accumulate. There's wisdom in those words.
