Many thanks to all, the car was fixed by replacing some wiring at a total costs of £140 including MOT!!

It has been running without issue for the last month so I am a tad relieved.

Thanks for reporting back but with such a lack of details it won't help the next guy??

Can you say what wiring was fixed? Where it was at in the car?

Because the ABS unit is not a common failure and as was posted by others these type of things usually point to a battery problem.

I did not effect the repair myself so apologies but unfortunately I cannot be very specific - but the point is that it was wiring and not the unit itself and not the battery.

I was hoping that this in itself might be of some, albeit limited, use.

It sounded like the original wiring from sensor to unit is run externally and as such open (to some extent) to the elements, the repairer replaced what I assume is a loom of wire but ran it within the engine bay to offer greater protection. The guy seemed to be pointing to the area underneath the front offside wheel arch when explaining about the original wiring.

Well that IS some help because we have seen other problems caused by wiring loom issues in the wheel wells and behind the front bumper.

The DCCV failure is sometimes caused by wiring and NOT the DCCV. That problem has also has been reported in the wiring behind the front bumper and the wheel wells.

Thanks for looking it up.
