Default The Adams Family-Lurch & Surge

Hello, Forum Members;

Another question on Lurch & Surge (sounds like characters from the Adams Family).

I run a 2003 S-Type R in complete stock form over in Sacramento CA. It’s a daily driver with fewer than 70k miles on the clock. Everything is good except the lurch and surge.

Contacted my only close Jaguar dealer and struck up some conversation; they have offered to undertake re-programming in line with the relevant TSB’s for the symptoms however, before I arbitrarily drop $160 at the service counter here’s my question………….Will this be permanent or is this a short term fix that in a few months will re-surface?

If there is anyone reading that has done this and can offer some solid feedback, I would really appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks, Rob.

Very well documented. Do a search and you will find a ton of stuff. Have you looked at the website??

My 2005 STR had a small version and a software update pretty much cured it. Does NOT appear to harm the transmission and is mainly a NVH issue from the adaptive programming of the ZF transmission.

Tbird6; Thanks for the link. I had found this via the forum and used it to help educate both myself and the local Jaguar dealer, a very useful site.

I have the full spectrum of issues displayed from my ZF and your reply suggests that the re-programming sticks which was my concern; after coughing up the $160 at the dealer, would it 'adapt' back in a few months.

I will be making an appointment tomorrow!

It appears to fix things properly BUT before reprogramming they must first clear the existing adaptions. (In that order: i.e. clear them then reflash.)

my lurch was reduced after a flush and refill of the tranny...still there, but much softer, and less often.
