Default Adding Bluetooth

Hi guys,

I want to add BT to my car. A few questions:
  • My understanding is that part 7W93-10D893-AB saves me from having to add the module in the center console. Is that so? And of course, is this part compatible with my 2005 S-Type with Nav.
  • How plug and play is the install in the trunk and microphone in the ceiling console? Are the harnesses there and I just have to connect the parts?
  • What is the part number for the microphone?
  • Do I need to bring in the car to the dealer after for any programming?

i know... lots of questions! Thanks for your help!

That module does not need the module in the center console.

Do not know for sure whether it is compatible with your car.

Everything should be plug and play so long as you have the connections DB2 and electrical.

I actually have an OEM spare microphone for the roof console. Some say an external mic is better but the one I have in my XJR works well.

You will need an antennae for the trunk module.

I also have spare D2B fiber cabling as well.

You will need to check behind the stack of modules in your trunk to see whether you have the electrical connector for the Bluetooth module.

If you do it will likely be taped up out of the way. I had two connectors one for VACM and one for Bluetooth on my 2005 XJR.
A BMW is available that fits listed elsewhere in this forum.

No programming necessary.

Thanks Jack! My car is in the shop. I get it back on Monday. I'm going to look behind the stack of modules in the truck and take pics when I get the car. I'll post a follow-up here to see what I have.

Good luck! You already have the D2B ring so adding to it would be easy. If you do not have the electrical connector that would not be good at all.
What about the "telephone" button on the steering wheel? Do you have that?

That is very promising. After confirming the electrical connections you need to confirm the Bluetooth module for your car.

The 7W93-10D893-AB will work with an 05MY S-type. I installed one in my car.
You will however also need the buetooth antenna C2C38921.
If you have voice control then you do not need an extra microphone, the voice control microphone will work.
If you do need the aditional microphone the part number is C2C29785SEL.
One other thing to note is that the 7W93-10D893-AB is not the same size as the original so a different mounting will be required.

The bluetooth unit is plug and play with the screen and buttons, but to get the voice control commands to work will require the Jaguar SDD software.

Even with this later unit you only get bluetooth for phone calls, not for music or texts.

VACM should be plug and play as well. It was for my 2005 XJR.

I simply used zip ties to mount the module in the rack.

Guys, THANK YOU SO MUCH for your replies!

John, I'm good with zip ties. I'll make sure it's well secured.

Mellow, the BT antenna is crazy expensive! I found one online and it's almost $200! Do you know if there is a Ford-equivalent part? The 7W93-10D893-AB module photos I saw say FoMoCo on it. Also, I only found one OEM mic online and it's beige. My car's interior is gray. Would a generic mic work?

It might be time for another trip to the junk yard!

I have a spare OEM mic that fits in the overhead console. It worked well in my car. I just replaced my overhead console with one that has wood trim and it came with another mic.
pm if interested.

Default Installed mic and module in overhead console.

The mic faces down against an open grid in the console surface. If you look at yours you will see it from below.

7W93-10D893-AB is a modified Ford part.

Yes, it does have the same case as the Ford unit, but the Ford unit is for a MOST fibre network and it will not work on the S-type D2B fibre network.
The connectors are the same, it is the communications protocol that is different.
So sadly, you must use the Jaguar version.

There was a Jaguar D2B to MOST converter that was used on the last of the X-types and XJ's for use with the DAB radio module that was only available for the last few months of production.
This was a very expensive option and because of this these units are very hard to find second hand.
Yes, in theory the DAB radio module with the converter should work in an S-type provided the software is updated to the later version, however I have never seen it done so even if you could find the two units it may not work in an S-type.

I should have also mentioned that the mic will not work unless you have the voice control module or you have fitted jumper wires to the voice control module electrical conector that is behind the stack in the boot/trunk.
Jaguar included a jumper plug with the bluetooth 'kit' but if you want to do this yourself the jumper pin to pin numbers are:

Green 12 - 13
White 2 - 15
Yellow 1 - 3

It is the PH2, 22 way connector that is numbered on the back: 1, 11, 12, 22.

The bluetooth antenna conector is a FAKRA-C socket.

Default Pics of my Bluetooth module and antennae

7W93-10D893-AB Is the unit I installed in my 2005 XJR which is certainly not a MOST car. Works very well.

Also look at the antennae connection Looks identical to that Ebay one that I pointed out.

Hi guys, I just got my car back! I'll take pics tomorrow and post them! :-)

John, here are some quick photos I took behind the CD changer/nav stack. Does it look like I have DB2 and electrical connections? Should I unwrap some of the cables? Let me know.

Thanks!

Jose
