Default Alarm auto-arms without the car locked - can it be disabled?

So in my opinion the alarm should not arm itself without the vehicle being locked. This is very annoying if you just want to run out and grab something from the car. The alarm honks the horn, and I don't see any indication that it's aftermarket. Can anyone tell me if there's a way to prevent the car from auto-arming without the doors being locked?

I'd greatly appreciate it!!

Are you in the U.S.? Normal operation for U.S. spec cars is no passive arming. The passive arming can be turned on and off with the IDS at the dealer. Perhaps a previous owner wanted the passive arming and had it turned on.

Yep I'm in good ole' Texas! I'll see if the dealer can fix it when I bring in the new key fob for programming. Thanks for the info!

Now if I can just find the slow drain on the battery that drains it completely if not driven every few days!!!

Real_tech can you give me any more info on where the tech would go in the system to disable the passive arming? They looked at me like I was crazy the last time I was in!

Thanks

Go to vehicle configuration main menu, fourth option from the top, dealer options, that is where you can turn the passive arming on and off as well as daytime running lamps, seatbelt warning chime etc.

Hi Real Tech,

I take it that the procedure you outlined is something done at a dealership by plugging a computer into a connection port on the car. I'm just guessing that there a password or other sort of authentication process to prevent just anybody from really dicking up the configuration to where it may be unrecoverable without a lot of hassle.

Thanks,

Mike
