Default Aluminum Interior

Found a real interesting ad on ebay today. It is a take off of the very rare for America, Aluminum interior trim. It looks like it was taken out of a STR. This isn't my listing but thought it might be of interest to someone who wanted to make a unique change to their car.

Here it is:

If I had a black interior I'd buy it!

Here is a S Type that was on ebay with the aluminum trim sport package.

I actually prefer the wood interior, but I know there are other owners that don't. Plus, this interior group is super rare...

Alumininum=Infiniti/Jap cars, Wood=Jaguar

My wood trip is one of the most complimented items on my vehicle. Just my $.02

I couldn't agree more. My Mercedes had the aluminum interior and I thought that it looked cheap. I'll take the beautiful wood veneer any day of the week.

The only problem with the wood is that it turns green.. that's why I would be interested in replacing mine. It looks like a Moss colored wood now. It's a greyish greenish color that looks different every time you get in the car.

Honestly, to clarify, I like the "natural" wood finish, not the greyish/black. If I had the dark grey I would probably change it to the aluminum finish. Eric, that sucks that yours is fading to a greenish color... Ewww.

I have the greyish-black finish and to be completely honest (not because I have it), there is NO other wood stain that would look right on a triple black STR. Other colors/models, yes, but not mine.

If I was to have an aluminum trimmed car, I would like it to have it engine turned. It is a classic look going back to the early Bugattis. I'm guessing it would look better in a black interior though. I prefer natural wood however.

I posted a link to an ebay auction that is over but you can still get to that was for a car with the aluminum trim. I just tried it and it still works. It would give you an idea what it would look like. The only issue I see with converting the car would be getting the correct switch housings for the doors since those too are usually in a wood surround and are plain black in this trim. The other would be the shift knob and steering wheel if those too had wood on them. The funny thing is if you see the other rare trim, the '08 satin edition, it too had the plain switches and steering wheel.

Huh... They relisted it. Guess 3 bills was too much. Heck if it drops to 2 bills I may have to get it..

If I come to the need of replacing the wood in my Black on Black, I'd actually consider this (if it fits an 02'). It would be like buying a new car, without buying a new car. Plus it's cheap enough, that if I hated it, I could go back to wood.

This may be a radical solution, but what about putting in the black switch housings and either covering the wood or replacing it with a full leather wheel? You could then have a variety of wood or aluminum kits to swap out depending on your desires. A little costly most likely.

Another radical idea: how about if Jaguar designed trim pieces to be easily swapped out and then offered a variety of trims? I would be inclined to go for a dark wood like black walnut or rosewood, carbon fiber and a light wood like birds eye maple or white ash as an example.

I like the wood trim on my STR, not a fan of the aluminum.
