Default Another Wheel Thread

Guys,

I have been at it again making changes to my 03 STR and am looking to change the look again. I have "limo tinted" all of my windows and "blacked out" the side markers and front and rear turn signals. I am now am thinking to replace the wheels and go with a matte black finish to match the theme. I like my current wheels (15 spoke Tucana) but the wheel doctor / wheel repair quotes I have received to powder coat my existing set is right around $800!

I found these on TireRack but dont know much about them. They ship with the hub rings, and new lug nuts complete for $650. I know with mounting and balancing I will be right around the $800 to powder coat my existing set, but I like the change in design.

Anyone have any experience with MSW wheels are they a good wheel, or should I keep looking? I know MSW is owned by OZ and is their lower end line.

Thanks in advance!

Width's and offsets on those MSW wheels?

They 18 or 19?

Brembo clearance is a concern on your 03...

Yeah those Brembos take up a lot of room along with those 365mm rotors! here are the specs on the wheels according to our friends at TR.com they will clear, but I dont know thoughts...

Wheel Size: 18x8"
Offset: 45mm
Backspacing: 6.26"

Make sure that ANY lug nuts provided are solid only!
No two piece with a sheet metal cap. Those were stock and should be replaced.

Well luckily, the 8" wide wheel is pretty narrow, narrower than stock, particularly in the rear of an R. Some basic math suggests the rear wheel will clear the fenders fine, even giving you some extra wiggle room to add a spacer if brake clearance is an issue.

The front wheels, with 8" wide rim and ET45, it will poke out slightly closer to the fender over stock STR front wheel, by about 5-10mm. This should still clear the fenders, but if you end needing to add a spacer to clear the front brakes, it might be pushing it.

Well... I pulled the trigger and now all that is left to hold my breath and wait to see if they will fit. I called the support team at TR.com and the guy I spoke with was personally familiar with the STR setup INCLUDING the Brembos without me having to bring it up. He assured me that this setup will work without any additional modification other than the obvious hubcentric rings, which he included for me at no charge. He also said that he has fielded this same line of questioning for these particular wheels in the past and no one that purchased them has reported any issues with them.

I guess we will just have to wait and see. Should I be successful I will pist an update with pics this weekend...

Cheers!

Oh I forgot to mention I have been running both the XF Cygnus and XJ Tucana stock wheels for several years both running the 245/45/18 tire setup and have been successful with both of them, although the Tucana wheels were pushing the envelop just a bit on the front wheels, on a hard over turn they would rub the wheel well liners just slightly...

Anyway, we will see how the new wheels fair by Saturday...

I believe they will fit, but I'm not sure why you would want to go with such a skinny wheel/tire and lose the staggered fitment.

+1, but i figured his current wheels being 18x8 all around, he is okay with that,

whats the exact width and offset on those cygnus wheels? the front rubbing issue you described is potentially an issue you might have with these ones too....

I would have to check on the specs for the Cygnus wheels, I can't remember what the offset and backspacing are...

My car Hasn't had the staggered wheels since 2005 when a pothole in Michigan robbed me of my stock wheels. I have been running the 18x8 wheels all around ever since. I never even got to wear out the tires on my staggered fitment, frankly I have forgotten how it looked / rode back then...

Default Update - They Fit

Finally the FSTKAT is home oil leak repaired and sporting her new wheels. There are many that I researched that do have clearance issues with the Brembo Calipers so be mindful of that if you are looking to replace your stock wheels.

I have not had a staggered fit for more than 7 years and have been running 18x8" wheels at all 4 corners with 245/45/18 tires. It works just fine for me and gives you plenty of wheel well clearance...

Here is a shot of the new wheels, I also replaced the center caps with the updated "R" logo to match the wing and boot badges...

Cheers!
