The center arm rest on my wife's 05 S-Type, 3.0, slides back, but wont open.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

You could try sliding something in from the front of it to see if something is blocking the latch?

Default Arm rest

I was able to open it by rocking it to and from, while at the same time lifting it. I found that about 2/3rds the way down, there are two spring loaded clips on either side, and appears to be cam driven by a cable attached to the release button. When I lift the button, these don’t move. When I get the opportunity, I’ll remove the arm rest and see if I can repair it.

It is a common issue. The part of the handle that releases the latches inside the armrest breaks. What you have to do is slide a screwdriver between the top of the armrest and the cupholder to release the clasps. At that point I just used some tape and tape them in the "in" position so it doesn't lock anymore.

Default armrest

I managed to pop open the arm rest by pressing in the two clips on the sides. Once open, I found that the cables attached to the unlock button, had slipped out of their respective clips. With a tiny screw driver, I pushed the cables back into place. I’ll see how long this lasts. A replacement from Jaguar is $800. I hope this helps.

Hummm, I have the oposit problem... sometimes mine will pop up if I lean on it wrong, or wont lock back after I shut it...(I keep it locked back 99% of time). Thx for the info, I'm gonna check my out to see if a simular issue is the cause.

yes I bought a replacement handle from the dealer, the pull cable on the right breaks out of the little holder from fatigue,

I know I posted this and the fix a while back.

Rock the lid while gently pulling up. There are torx screws that, hold the safety cover remove those then there are 2 torx that hold the handle to the lid the cables are a serious pita to remove but doable ir was a 1hr job tops
