Default AVC (automatic Volume Control)

After reading the owners audio manual (2003 Stype) and all the threads in the forum about this radio feature, I still can't find where it tells what the numbering scale choices (1-5) mean? Is 1 less sensitive or is 5? I've tried both extremes and I can't seem to tell any difference. I've always thought this would be a cool feature in a car, and hopefully someone can help me with this little details. Thanks for you help.

The radio in my X-Type is probably similar to yours. The manual says:

"To activate AVC, press and hold the volume control knob until AVC ON is displayed. ... The level of AVC control can be adjusted from 1 to 5 by turning the volume control knob ... Position 5 gives the greatest increase in volume relative to vehicle speed. When AVC is ON, manual adjustment of volume will override the AVC setting."

Now I'm going to go try it out on my car.

It helps to know what difference the numbers make. My owners manual doesn't say what the difference in numbers mean. I even went to the Portland Jag dealer and they couldn't really tell me either. I'm going to set mine on #5 and see if I can tell a difference! Thanks for your help.

I was just out running some errands and was playing around with the AVC. It really didn't seem to make much difference at all. There's no touchscreen in my car, if that matters. The display said AVC ON and it was set at 5 but without knowing I had just set it I don't think I could tell you if it was on or off. It seems to be almost as easy and much more effective to just turn the knob instead of pushing it.

Yes, I've just about come to that conclusion, as well after tinkering with it without a noticeable difference.
