AVC (automatic Volume Control)
After reading the owners audio manual (2003 Stype) and all the threads in the forum about this radio feature, I still can't find where it tells what the numbering scale choices (1-5) mean? Is 1 less sensitive or is 5? I've tried both extremes and I can't seem to tell any difference. I've always thought this would be a cool feature in a car, and hopefully someone can help me with this little details. Thanks for you help.
The radio in my X-Type is probably similar to yours. The manual says:
"To activate AVC, press and hold the volume control knob until AVC ON is displayed. ... The level of AVC control can be adjusted from 1 to 5 by turning the volume control knob ... Position 5 gives the greatest increase in volume relative to vehicle speed. When AVC is ON, manual adjustment of volume will override the AVC setting."
Now I'm going to go try it out on my car.

I was just out running some errands and was playing around with the AVC. It really didn't seem to make much difference at all. There's no touchscreen in my car, if that matters. The display said AVC ON and it was set at 5 but without knowing I had just set it I don't think I could tell you if it was on or off. It seems to be almost as easy and much more effective to just turn the knob instead of pushing it.
Are you guys deaf? Ok it`s taken 3 jags to work this out first one xj then s type first 2 had ford audio so I expected nothing the audio volume used to go and down in volume Just bought low mileage x type same thing again its got a great sounding alpine sound system with great sound car is great but the sound also went up and down turns out its this clever system that compensates for road noise etc my advice is switch it of turn it up and enjoy
