Default B2291

I have been chasing the SRS code B2291 / flash code 17, one long airbag flash followed by 7 short flashes, 3 times consecutively then a solid airbag light for a couple of years.

I finally broke down and purchased an Autel AL619 code reader from Amazon for about $100.00 Prime. Within minutes of opening box and plugging into joycesjag, I was able to read the B code, locate and resolve the cause.

I must have damaged the tab that holds the cloth airbag cable in the passenger A pillar when I replaced our headliner. The cloth cable was not in contact with sensor. I used electrical tape to "fix" tab. I cleared the code and have yet to have the flash / B2291 code return.

Now if I can only figure out how to remove gas tank locking rings.

Um, I don't think you were required to watch the light for so long to read out the faults. I'd say once it stopped flashing, another minute or two was plenty.

Well done, Rick. The various airbag system fault codes in the XK8/XKR models are notorious for taking some owners months or longer to track down and resolve as well. Sometimes the correct tool is worth every penny you pay for it....

By the way, Wayne and I are thinking of changing the factory fill of differential fluid in Jan's 2006 XK8 (now at 119,200 miles) once the weather cools down come late September. They say that drain/fill plug is much more difficult to access and remove than the infamous fill plug in the ZF 6HP26 unit. Wayne thinks he can snake his way to it with the required homemade tools and I guess we will find out when we try to do the job. Sure hope you can join us at Wayne's house on that day....

Ok, so I have the same code on my S type R, same code reader as well. What I want to know is how did you figure out the problem was in the A pillar and what it was?
