Default Basic Load of Tools

I would be interested in what other owners carry in their cars in the line of tools and equipment. In my case I carry the following:

Tire gauge
Jumper cables
Ratchet and open end wrenches in sizes 6mm - 17mm
Socket wrench set 8mm - 17mm to include spark plug socket
Reversible screw driver with various bits.
Allen wrenches in various sizes
Hose clamp set
Adjustable wrench
Leather cleaner
Window cleaner
Armor All
Paper towels

I stow these in three locations:

Tool kit in right side strap
Tire gauge in glove compartment
Paper towels in passenger side floor
Jumper cables in left side compartment
All others in spare tire compartment

carelm, I just carry the stock jack and a 4 point star bar. NOrmally, if my vehicles are going to fail, they are going to need more than I can carry in the trunk. I will occassionally carry some red glow sticks too for those emergency situations.

Now, if you want to count a tire pressure gauge, then yes, I do carry one of those. But, I don't consider that a tool.

254 piece crescent tool set in a nice carrying case. Jumper cables, jack, tire iron, first aid kit, flares, glowsticks, flash light, cap, rotor, plug wires, plugs and spare belts (adding spare set of hoses also now)

oh and for right now I'm carrying 6 spare tires.... I need to get that carried in the garage lol

Carlm:

I carry most of the same stuff you do with one addition. I carry a small Coleman 12V air compressor in the trunk of both cars. On several occasions it's allowed me to re-inflate a flat and move the car to someplace where I could safely change tires.

Hi ArmyJag,

It sounds like you need a trailer for all that stuff

In my old Army days I scrounged up an ammo crate that held two 105mm tank rounds for my M577 to carry our field tools. Also, I managed to score a beat up tool box for my car and motorcycle tools. It just needed a lock and some hammering to get it back into some reasonable shape.

Good luck in your upcoming tour.

Mike

Since it is virtually impossible to predict what any mechanical problem on the road might be other than a flat tire, each of our vehicles is equipped with only a small array of tools and supplies. That would include the factory-installed jack/tire iron/spare tire, a set of jumper cables, a Phillips screwdriver, a flat-head screwdriver, a small knife, an adjustable wrench, a pair of pliers, a small assortment of bungee cords, and a roadside flare.

I can't remember our last roadside breakdown. It had to be 20 years or more ago....

Hey ArmyJag, you wouldn't be Intel by any chance? If so, you also need the waterboard and rubber hose. Very effective and no moving parts

Well, I'm a former MI officer...but I got better. By the way, about 5 years ago I got a recruitment letter from the Joint Munitions Command asking former MI officers and EOD sgts to join the WMD snipe hunt. Since at the time it was 130 degrees in Iraq, and the insurgents were lopping the heads off every contractor they could find, I declined their generous offer. They offered a GS15 Step 10, overtime pay, and they would throw in sets of BDUs, a gas mask and a pistol.

Default Crappy Jag jack.

My Jag jack threads stripped after about 16 summer/winter tire changes.
Jag replaced it on warranty with the same crap. I carry the jack from an 84 Toyota I owned before. Get one, it's built like a brick s***house!!
I might convert the Jag jack into a lamp, any ideas?

Besides the standard jack? Only the most important tools.
A cell phone, AAA card with the extended towing option and an Amex Platinum card.
