Default Battery Options - 00 S Type - 4.0

I currently have a Interstate 85 Mo battery installed in my 00 S Type - the battery is giving indications it's no longer viable after only 2.5 years of use. Went through the motions, tested each cell - one was crapped out - specific gravity almost non existent.

If Interstate doesn't replace it under warranty (lost receipt) what options are out there for batteries?

I want to install a durable battery in - like a Sears Die Hard battery.

I know the 03 S-Type 4.2 battery listed is a group 48 battery (Oops...meant Group 49) like the one that is called for in my 00 model with a slightly higher CCA - is that doable?

Just curious to getting feedback from my fellow forum members on this topic - Thanks!

The correct battery is the Group 49 or MB 88 or Interstate H8 (not group 48)

I would buy only Deka batteries. I have had a Deka in one of my other cars for almost 5 years. They are simply the best value for the money no holds barred. All the others pale by comparison.

Deka now manufactures batteries for Sears. Sears has seen the light on batteries. I guess they were sick of taking batteries back after only 2 years.

If you buy a Sears diehard, you are getting a Deka.

Hi Bob, Meant to state - Group 49 - not 48 - Thanks! The Interstate battery I currently have is Model: MTP-91 - I've heard great things about Interstate batteries that is why I went with them but this battery is clearly failing after less than 3 years. I was hoping for more life.

Is it possible the Interstate rep sold me the wrong battery for my application? Thanks for the info.

UPDATE - The rep did sell me the wrong battery! I just discovered the Interstate MTP-91 battery I had installed was for an 03 S Type - so I now have the correct battery installed. Thanks for the feedback and guidance.

Just as an update - the closest Deka dealer was about 70 miles away from me.

I came across a NAPA Battery - 84 month warranty for $139.99 + tax.

I wound up purchasing a Bosch Battery from Pep Boys on sale for only $98.99 (including the $10.00 off) - Part No. 49-850B with a 36 mos free exchange and a 96 month prorated warranty. I had a gift card I forgot about so it cost me even less...

Several members here have gone with the Bosch battery from Pep Boys during the past couple of years or so. No complaints as far as I recall....

Just a bit more information on batteries.

As was posted above:

Bosch 49-850B SKU#9073755 from Pep Boys List $104.99

Also AutoZone Duralast Gold
#H8-DLG List $146.44

Seems the Bosch is a better deal. It is also a bit more powerful. CCA @0F = 850 while the Duralast is CCA @0F = 760.

I have found most Pep Boys stores will need to order it.

I was lucky enough that my local Pep Boys had it in stock - I agree with you on the Bosch being a better deal. I installed it last night and I could tell the difference in cranking power straight away and it fit and installed like a glove.
