Bonnet vents.
Hello folks.
has anyone had bonnet vents cut into their S-type bonnet? Maybe something within the Jaguar family like XKR bonnet vents?
would be interested to see some finished pictures if you have.
Cheers, Mark.

Ah yes, the typical boomer response I was expecting.. not like anyone has ever manufactured something to divert water under a hood…. “obvious sarcasm”
I’d be interested in this as well, but I’m expecting more responses like his.

Expecting a "participation trophy" for that response? Inquiring minds want to know. (obvious sarcasm here too...)

I didn’t ask the question, I simply made that statement because anytime someone asks a question about doing something other than what Jaguar did to the car from the factory it’s met with negative responses like yours. With no thoughts as to the possible benefits if done properly. The link the gentleman posted above depicts the benefits of doing so, with ensuring the water is channeled in such a fashion to where it does no harm. On a previous vehicle I owned they helped tremendously. Granted it was a hood made from carbon fiber, but it had the proper channels for water that would divert it away to a safe location. As a result the car didn’t overheat at all and it ran much better.

In any case, it wasn't negative - it was to caution which is something else.
Now... knowing it could cause issues and saying nothing? That would be negative.

If anyone has done it properly with taking into consideration channeling for water and such is an entirely different question of course. But an interesting one none the less. I would think removing heat out of the engine bay was the main reason why the post was made in the first place but of course no one knows as of yet. Least that’d be my interest with this whole idea in my S type R.
JagV8 it's a whole different world my friend. We have to embrace, coddle and be politically correct without offending inquiries posted on public/international discussion groups. Your real world knowledge/experience does not count as its not what posters want hear/read.
Now IMHO if one would like to spend the $$$ or has the expertise to louver a 15 plus year old S Type hood/bonnet with success, I say kudos and please share with the group! I do remember that dealing with an aluminum hood/bonnet is a very difficult thing to deal with, almost a lost art.

That brown XJ6 - that's the boys from Hot Rod Magazine as seen on their youtube channel "Road Kill".
Funny, I seem to remember them having cooling issues and could've used some louvers, haha.

It's not such a ridiculous idea to add bonnet vents. I believe they were considered originally for the S-Type R. The under bonnet area is designed as a wet environment for obvious reasons so bonnet vents such as those used on the X100 series XKR wouldn't immediately risk durability concerns, assuming some consideration was given to where they were placed. They were used on the XKs without additional issues.
They would also help reduce under bonnet temperatures which the S-Type R can suffer with resulting in plastic parts and hoses perishing more quickly than they otherwise might.
Personally I also dont think stylistically they would look bad. They work on the XKR and would hark back to louvred bonnets on original S-Type racers.
