Most codes take 2 drive cycles (that PDF again).

Some won't show up till the P1000 has turned to P1111.

At least it's running

Congratulations! I have used the oil method twice, and I too found that when cranking, the only place it would fire was around 75% throttle. Good info for other wash victims out there.

Glad you got it going, I would add don't hang about fixing that misfire, it's putting unburnt fuel into your cats - not good news if you end up having to replace them.

Default Bore Wash...again

THANK YOU...I so appreciate this forum. I couldn't imagine what was wrong with my '98 XJ8 when it wouldn't start...after a cold start, short move, & shut off...NEVER AGAIN! I had no idea what was going on, until reading this forum. Evidently a typical problem. I followed the suggestions, & it is now running, just fine, thank you!! Decided to unplug the batter so it would clear out all those messages, & found a broken battery clamp. So change the oil & I'm back on the road...thank goodness. I love my Jag!!

Good to hear!

Thinking a bit more, once "enough" WOT cranking has been done, the car should start when you stop using WOT but not if you carry on using WOT. (Because WOT stops any more fuel being added so cranking gradually expels it. It can't start after that as there's no fuel!)

I suppose it still won't start if there's inadequate compression.

And "enough" is kinda hard to define

I left the battery unconnected for about 4-5 hours. Came back, put new connector on, tightened up everything, & it runs & acts like nothing every happened. All the codes are cleared up, & it's nicely behaving itself...thank goodness.

Sure appreciate all the help...

Is this mainly a 4.0 L problem? I have done the same thing (start, move a short distance and shut off) but never had any problem with starting?

When I put it up on ramps it's probably running no more than a minute or two from dead cold overnight temperature.

I never heard it happening to a 4.2. A good thing for me: due to the layout of my property I have to start & stop every time.
