Default Bore Wash, I'm retarded (Update)

My car has been misfireing. I let it stand for a few days then tried it, it was still missing so turned it off. Doh !!!! I always get it up to temp before turning it off, even when moving it a few feet. I don''t know why i didn't this time. Now guess what, bore wash.

Tried cranking it with WOT, but no joy.

Any tips ?

Thanks

Aside from removing the plugs and disconnecting the fuel pump fuse; let her sit.

I think the recommended procedure is to crank with WOT for 10-15 secs repeatedly letting the starter rest between cranks.
Others have removed the plugs and squirted a small ammount of oil into the bores.

Covered recently and Search on bore wash will no doubt turn up the details - but they're as stated above. You're a tad unlucky, but the 4.0 is a bit prone to bore wash.

i was cranking 15-20 secs with wot then letting it rest, did this abot 15 times and the bat is nearly flat, is this about normal or do i need a new bat aswell.

Where is the fuel pump fuse (it will save me having to route my manual out)

Thanks

Charge battery at 10 amp/hr. or put it on "Start" engine mode and carefully repeat 10-15 second WOT procedure. Personally, I'd charge the battery and let her sit overnight for a surprise start-up tomorrow morning.

If in a hurry I guess the only thing is to pull the plugs and add a little oil to each bore. If a tech would like to say whether that's the best thing and how much (I'd go for a generous teaspoonful).....

looks like i''m pulling the plugs, as i let it sit for 24 hours ofter start/stopping. Does the standard 10mm plug socket fit and how deep are the plugs ? will i need a long extension.

Thanks

Default Bore Wash, I'm retarded (battery removal ?)

Just been looking at removing the battary, it has some sort of clamp at the base of the battery, how do i go about removing this.

I don't have the bar marked by the blue arrow.

The clamp thing is circled in red.

The reason i ask is i'm a bit ham fisted and don't want to break anything.
Thanks

got it off, the clamp had no nut on it, the bolt coomming up from the boot floor is only about 1cm long and the clamp had been glued and wedged in place.

So what's the plan? Charge the battery and oil in the plug holes?
Keep us posted.

If you go the oil route, read this thread- https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...er-wash-49001/

To save time you might want to just do the left hand bank, or whichever cylinders are easier to access in your car.

Gona charge the battery and have 1 last go at cranking with wot, it's worth a try.

Then plugs if that doesn't work.

Charged battery for about 40 hours, Put it back in car (that was 1cm deep in ice) and started cranking with wot.

The engine seemed to turn over a little faster than it did before charging the battery.

Cranked for 15 seconds ish then waited 15 seconds cranked again, did this maybe 10 times still the same.

Lifted my foot a little while cranking and could hear a noise in engine bay and very slight coughing, moved my foot up and down and got most "coughing" with 75% throttle.

Continued to crank (and prey) with wot and then 75% throttle it coughed more and more then fired in to life.

Whoo hooooo.

Just got my misfire to sort now. (elm on the way)

Thanks to everyone for their help.

Without this forum it would have needed lifting to a garage to be sorted, costing god onlys knows what.

Phew! Persistence paid off, well done!

You may need to note code details and clear them, as there may be some extras due to what's occurred. Oh, wait, battery off so the ones you had have gone. Oh well, they'll come back. Expect P1000 initially or P1111 (if you're lucky) - have a read of the codes PDF especially the first 10 or so pages. Don't try to clear either of those codes (the reading should make it clear why).

Just took it for a gentle drive around the block, the misfire is still there and i was hoping it would store some codes, have to wait and see.

Thanks for all your help.
