British Diagnostics
2 weeks ago I bought the software for my S type R from British Diagnostics. I have emailed them multiple times and have yet to see the software. Are they always like this? The customer service is definitely less than to be desired. Ugh.
It was over five years ago now, but I think I downloaded the Virtual-box image for SDD V130 complete with all the necessary drivers for the Mongoose interface from here:

There is an instructions readme file.

SDD 130 works on 05MY (made in 2004) or newer cars.
You will have to use IDS for cars that are 04 model year (made in 2003) or older and as far as i know the above image will not work as it does not have the necessary drivers. I think it will just come up with an error if you use it on an older car.
SDD 130 requires a PC running window XP with no internet connection and with code to make sure the date re-sets every time the machine is powered up.
In theory SDD version 138 was the last one to work with the s-type, however this is said to be unstable, so it is best to use 130.
Obviously, you will need the correct interface, in this case a mongoose.
You should also use a power supply connected to the battery when doing any programming on the car.
If the battery voltage drops when programming it will damage the modules on the car.
A normal 3 or even 5 amp battery charger will not be enough as it has to be sufficient to power all the cars electrics with the ignition on and without the engine running.
Jaguar recommend a 30 amp 13.8v power supply with three charging modes, ‘bulk’, ‘absorb’ and ‘float’ and that you should also wait till you are on float setting before programming. However, I have a 25-amp variable voltage stabilised power supply that does the job and keeps the voltage up.
