Burned Power Wire Alternator
hey Gang,
I'm posting this for a friend at work whose husband has a 2000 S-Type and has a burned power wire off the alternator. He replaced the battery and it went dead in no time and found the wire burned that goes to the alternator. He's looking into the battery ground wire as we speak as a possible culprit. He wants to know if it is safe to splice a new piece of wire with a new end onto the old cable. Seems every independent repair shop won't touch it (splicing) and he does not want to take it to the dealer. If anyone has any suggestions it will be greatly appreciated.

+1 on that but after fixing it I see no problem splicing a good enough gauge of wire and properly insulating it. Really worry about salt/water etc getting in. Don't do a poor job as a fire is a real risk.
