Default buying a s-type

I recently been looking at a 02 s-type v8 jag. My concern is that it has 160k miles on it and a rebuilt tranny. Does these cars hold up to 200k or better mileage without any extensive repairs or is it too much mileage to deal with?

If it was me, unless you are getting a smoking deal on this car, pass.
I have heard horror stories of the early v8 engines.
160k is a lot of miles.
Try for something 2003 or newer.
I am sure that something better will come along real soon.
Worked that way for me.

It all depends on maintenance... a rebuilt tranny is a good sign. The burning question is were those tensioners changed out. If they were and the price is a real steal as heima mentioned above (and I'm talking less than $2,500 provided the interior, suspension is cherry)... then it might be worth it. Even better if the chains and guide rails were upgraded also... DO NOT take anyone's "yes" for the work being done. Ask for an invoice....but also be prepared to spend $$$ on maintenance...

I have over 200K miles on my Cat... so, it is possible...with proper maintenance...

PS - If you do purchase the car - ensure you change that tranny fluid every 2 years/20K miles and the shop probably filled the case with regular ATF requiring it to be changed more often.

midcity, ditto to my brothers who already responded. If you're falling in love with the "S-Type", then go for the 2003+ models.

DO NOT BUY A PRE 2003 S-TYPE.

I promise you'll thank us later.

I have to agree with the others on trying to shoot for the 2003+ models.
