Default Can someone please tell me what this small black box is?

I was removing the rear side panels where the seat belts are coming down from to retract the rear seats and I noticed some cut wires on the rear driver side. I took some pics of it, tried to do it as best as possible with holding a flash light. Can someone please tell me what that little black box is which as a wire connected to that white box on the Second pic. I'm guessing it might have something to do with the rear parking sensors maybe? Thanks.

Is that an RCA plug on the top? If so did your car have a backup camera or sensors? Do they work now?

Gus my STR did use to have back up sensors but the previous owner got rid of them for whatever reason because I don't see the sensors on the rear bumper. My guess was the same also this might be one of the parts to it which he disconnected.....

I assume that you are asking about a 2003 S-TYPE. I am guessing that it is the rear backlight antenna module from the pic.

Hi motorcarman, yes this is for my 03 STR. What exactly is a "backlight antenna module" Is that for the rear bumper sensors?

Thanks.

jag79, is there a white powdery substance on or around the box? Would you or anyone you know be the subject of an official investigation?

Oh! It's *that* member!

In that case it's a previous generation standard issue NSA tracking device that got bought in bulk by the vice squad.

If not that, then it can only be ... the remnants of the automated condom dispenser.

Thats what I'm thinking. When they cut the wires to deactivate it it exploded and the condoms went everywhere and apparently then didn't get them all which is why he is always find them.

That's what happens with rookies. They should have pulled the fuse first.

OHhhhh WTF!!! Are you guys serious? Hmmm....a tracking device I can maybe just maybe accept, but a freakn condom dispenser exploding,lolz..paleeeezzzzzzzz.....that would be hilarious, hopefully tomorrow when the weather clears up, I'll be dropping down the rear seats and trying to expose the Subwoofer wires in the rear deck for a sub swap, lets see what goodies we'll find in there You guys are a trip!

Just a thought tho, but what if that previous owner was a amateur pornstar and just played it safe and had hidden condoms at his disposal all around inside the car
He basically turned this STR into a ****-lair

Yep. Hey, it's a Florida car isn't it?

You will forever be known around these parts as condomking. You'll never live it down. Might as well ask the mods to change your username now.

Now, what was it you were dropping down tomorrow?

I'm guessing Bob got it right.. It may be an antenna module.. It is definately not part of the back up sensors... That module is in the spare tire well. But don't go in there looking! God knows what you'll find in there!

According to that great Jaguar EPC that George gave us, I see that the radio antenna amplifier is in the rear drivers side panel... Hmmm...

Hi Vance,

I'm making a new thread on my project for the rear deck subwoofers.
Basically installing 2 8" Elemental design subwoofers 4 oHms hooked up to the factory Amp. IF it doesn't sound right then I'm going to hook it up to another Alpine Amp 300 watt with an inline inverter.

No accident, original owner had lots of problems with the rear sensors malfunctioning so he got rid of them, had the rear bumper completely
re- painted with the sensor holes patched up. He liked the clean face look better, and I agree.
