Not exactly sure what happened here, but all I have to say is this:

If you have thin skin, you won't survive on these open forums for very long.

If you have thick skin, not only will you have a good time here, but you'll also gain a wealth of knowledge from folks that you commonly agree with as well as from folks that you commonly disagree with (as Jeff has already pointed out, specifically by using me as an example. Did that bother me? Not in the slightest. Why? Because it's true)....

My final advice to Car Smart Not is:

Thicken up your skin, grow the hell up, and stick around. The knowledge you'll gather here is worth far more than getting your feelings hurt every now and then....

Who, huh, what? Wow, blink once and all h*ll breaks loose. I havn't seen any posts aimed at CSN that would have offended me but have learned that there always two different ways to read things.

That is a hefty monthly insurance payment. You could buy a lot of car for that

Wow! And here I thought my insurance was steep at $950/6 months with three speeding tickets in four years (one of which was in the jag ).

CarSmartNot - try calling DA Kurt in Kitchener/Waterloo for a quote at (519) 579-5440. I have my insurance through them and they're pretty reasonable.

If Liberty Mutual is available where you are - get a quote from them. I haven't found anybody less expensive for my coverage.

$777/month? That's redonkulous. Do you have a bad record or is it the way it works in your Province due to your age? What kind of coverage does that give you? Absolution from all blame?

I just checked mine. $2MM liability and full comprehensive, including full glass plus collision and accident forgiveness and I pay $648 a year. It pays to be over fifty with a clean record.

Folks can slag Alberta and it's conservative politics but the Provincial cap on auto insurance rates has saved my kids (22, 20 & 18) thousands in premiums. None of my kids pay more than $145/month and one of them has a less than stellar driving record. Thank goodness the lawyer got the crown to reduce the "flight from police" charge to "dangerous driving". That's a whole other story. Of course, none of them drive a Jag either.

I feel for you CSN.

So, a joke huh? Just another example of why I'm going to say what I say. I seriously doubt your claims. For one..You stated that you would not spend more than approx. 8500 for your car yet I assume you got the grey one you talked about. That was over 12. Also, 750 a month for insurance is also outrageous. While it is a modest house, I pay less a month for my mortgage. To me, the math just doesn't add up.

Ouch. $750 a month? In one year you've almost paid for the car all over again. Back when I was a kid and faced similar outrageous insurance bills, I started 'self-insuring' the collision part of the coverage. Instead of giving them the money, I put it in the bank every month as my own just in case fund. Yes, you run the risk of screwing yourself but knowing that my having an at fault accident was under my own control, I decided to assume the risk.

It worked out and I never bought collision again to this day. The amount of money in the fund greatly exceeds the replacement cost of the car, so I use the excess to buy new toys.

Increasing the deductible might also make things more affordable.

Also, about the insurance; please go to any insurance site and get a quote for a very young male driver, who just has never had insurance before. If you find insurance that is less than $450-$500 I will pay you $150 of my own money.
And I never purchased the grey one like I said in another post, I got a black V8.

So far I've gotten quotes with:
Bel-rdirect,rbc,TD,statefarm,progressive,and on top of this I've called 2 different brokers who deal with10+ insurance companies, all quotes have been $700+ monthly, lowest was from TD I think.

You have no idea what your talking about Jeff, like I said find me insurance in the 200-450 range and ill send you $150. I think you have been around stupid teenagers your whole life which is why you assume I'm lying, because I'm young you think I lie and you automatically label me as a cretin.

Jeff I think its you who's a kid, from the way you speak and your worthless accusations. Grow up jeff.

After ALL the help Jeff assisted you with...shame on you CSN!!!

I'll leave it to others to address your ongoing punk-*** attitude towards folks who try to help you. What I'm going to address are your outrageous insurance quotes....

The facts just don't add up. No reputable insurance company is going to charge nearly $800 per month, even for an inexperienced snotty-nosed kid, unless there are extenuating circumstances that you haven't disclosed here. Do you have a lousy driving record with multiple serious-offense tickets? Have you had a previous vehicle repossessed? Do you have serious health problems that could affect your ability to drive safely? Have you been involved in traffic accidents that were indeed your fault? All of these situations could explain an insurance company jumping your rates to the levels that you have quoted here. But no legitimate company would charge these rates even to inexperienced, young male drivers with clean records. If they did, no kid would be able to afford to drive because no parents in their right minds would fork over that kind of money to put their child behind the wheel....

If it is indeed going to cost you nearly $800 per month just to cover the required insurance on that S-Type, all I can say is that you foolishly picked the wrong car and the wrong insurance company....

Oh well, it is what it is... Got better things to do. My only other comments are these;

I have a 19 year old son that lives with his Mom in Missouri, he got a DUI and now won't get a newer car since the insurance will be around 350 a month. I currently raise two kids that are not mine and have a baby that is 6 months old..So, I think I'm kinda wise to what it costs to do things...but maybe not....

Then there is the old adage; "A fool and their money are soon parted"

Hey CSN im a canadian too, when i was 19 i bought an infiniti q45(my first car) they quoted me 9000$/year. what i ended up doing was putting the car under my dad's name and getting insured as a "occasional driver" the total ended up being 2500$. the problem is finding a good broker who will do it as it is very difficult these days, but it will be worth it.
canadian insurance companies dont like insuring young guys on high powered prestigious vehicles....and i dont blame them.

also, ive heard wawanesa will offer very good rates if the vehicle doesnt have a lien on it, so if your vehicle isnt financed and paid in full mention it.

good luck
