Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold

Keep getting this fault code. I have purchased a autel autolink and I'm fairly impressed with it do far. So I have cleared the fault but it comes back after about 3-5 days.

Anything to worry about?
Possible causes?

I have a 6 month warranty on the car not sure what it covers or how to proceed putting car into garage. Do garages mind if you read your obd yourself? They might say they don't trust my equipment lol.

I believe this means the car thinks the catalytic converter is not working, but think this code can be triggered by a faulty o2 sensor.

What was the exact code ?

As for the warranty ring and speak to the garage, the problem you might have is i was under the impression that cats were a "wear and tear" item and might not be covered, like tyres, brake pads and windscreen wipers

I had the same problem on my 2002 S type 3.0, after taking it on a trip and using different brand of gasoline, the light has never come on again. It just passed smog and the readouts were almost zero's across all readings. Would be worth a try. Good luck

There are four oxygen sensors that compare the exhaust pre and post catalyst. If the reading is the same, the ECM sets off the MIL assuming the catalyst is no longer functioning.

I have found the best approach is to begin with inspecting the connections and then moving on to replace the oxygen sensors. You may also want to try changing fuel as has been suggested in a previous post.

i belive p0420 relates to bank 1, so at least you have a starting point.
