Check Engine light. Air Leak Issue
2001 Jaguar S-Type 3.0 automatic
Ok. So after getting over my Gearbox Fault issue in my last thread which I recommend anyone with that issue take a look at and save yourself some serious time and aggrevation, I now have another issue which doesn't seem as major but would like some assistance from the experts if possible.
So my "Gearbox Fault" light is off and now I just have a "check engine" light and the car has what seems like a rough idle. It isn't horrible and the car runs fine off of idle but when I come to a stop or when i start the car it has a putter to it. Also I noticed that my brakes are a little spongy when the car is first started in the morning but goes away once hot. Once in a while it will also just cut off when at idle (such as a red light or when parked) I ran the codes and found:
P0171
P0174
P0301
P0302
P0303
Before driving myself nuts again like with the last problem I thought I would just waste some money instead of time and brought it to "Jake Kaplan's Jaguar" (1346 Bald Hill Rd Warwick, RI 02886) to get a diagnosis done to it by the ones i figured would know it best. I paid $125 for the diagnosis and I will list everything they found in regards to this issue before telling you what I have done.
Their exact diagnosis is:
check p0171 p0174 0301 302 302 lean and misfire codes
check for vac leak use datalogger checking o2 sensors found pcv system
massive leak needs pcv hoses above and below intake manifold
So they told me that all the vacuum hoses above and below the intake manifold needed to be replaced. They told me it would cost $85 for all the new hoses but would cost them $960 for 7 hours of labor to do the job. I purchased all the new hoses but did the labor myself in about 2 hours. While doing the job I noticed that indeed their was a crack in the hose that went from the front of the engine to the back and had a 90degree angle on the back. So I thought it would fix my problem.
After putting everything back together, the problem still persists. Since I have a complete parts car I figured I would switch the EVAP Solenoid just to see if that would help, but nothing helped. The problem still persists and Jake Kaplan's wants another $125 to further check the problem. I obviously don't want to waste the money if someone can help me. Any suggestions?

I did and they told me that they couldn't do anything because I was honest and told them that their was a crack in the vacuum hose so their diagnosis was correct and that this is probably a seperate issue.
They charged me $125 to unlock my trunk. It took 10 min. They held the car in the garage for an hour while I was waiting.( I went around the back to check on it).
Check the breather hose. It could be loose. Mine was doing the same thing. I wrapped duck tape around the connections until I get a new one and it stopped. Haven't had a check engine light since.
Go to Freds Autohause on West Shore RD.
He is far cheaper and fair. He does all my work
Hope this helps,

I suppose failing coils would account for the misfires (P030x codes).
An air (vacuum) leak would explain the lean codes and might also explain the brakes if it's affecting the vacuum-assist. There's a tube to the brake thingy (name escapes me!!) I think. Someone will know what I mean I hope......
I don't know if the usual leaking elbow of the PCV hose would explain the brakes. Maybe, as it's all one vacuum circuit.
