Job well done. Yet another member of the New Window Clip Club. As our S-Types continue to age, plenty of new members will be climbing aboard....

I wanted to follow up on this great repair thread. I had just the bottom of the trim in the back pop up a bit. I got a couple of clips and thought that would repair it.

With the age of our cars I found out those white plastic clips decay and turn very brittle. The clips that were OK and tight stared splitting and breaking. So I popped the entire trim piece off and replaced every clip. Pretty simple and quick and the trim is very tight now. I did find that a quick smack with my fist was the best way to seat the trim on the clips. I tried pushing and a few of them clicked in but I needed a bit more force.

Just not worth it to do a couple of clips. Plan on replacing all of them and the job will turn out much better. You really need the trim removed so you can properly get the old clips out. A simple push on the center pin and then a small set of nippers to lever the plastic base out of the hole.

I'm curious as to how much you had to pay for these clips now. I still have a few spares that I purchased several years ago and hope they will get me by for the remainder of the time this car spends in our stable....

I always get parts from Greenville Jaguar but these are small and I forgot to order some more when I placed my last order. The original part number XR826786 looks to have 020 added to the end by Jaguar. So I searched for XR826786 and XR826786020.

I found Terry's Jaguar Parts to have the best price/shipping combo. Also found out that a full package of these is 20. $1.04 each.

Xr826786

I paid $6.50 for shipping but now when I enter 20 they only charge $3 for shipping?

I have new clips installed, but the trim refuses to snap onto them. I sure don't want to dent the trim by pounding too hard on it!

ETA.. When the window is down the trim snaps into place on the three clips I replaced. Put the window up, the trim pops off the clips. I try to push harder on the trim, but no luck. I may have to put epoxy on the clips so the trim stays put.

I had no luck pushing the trim onto the clips. I had several clips try to bite but then popped back off. I used my flat palm and slapped them into place. I get a nice click when they seat. Took a good bit force to seat them.

I only replaced my rear door window trim and the window had nothing to do with those trim pieces so I can't help with that part.

Also be aware that the design of the clips is such that the first time the trim pops over the edge is the tightest it will hold. I found repeatedly popping the trim off and on wears down these small edges. The good thing is the clips are cheap. So I recommend replacing every clip on the door you are working on and try to pop the trim on one time only.

I agree that slapping the chrome trim into place on the new clips with my palm was the best technique at the time I had to do this repair. As this chrome trim continues to weather and age, the new clips may prove to be less and less effective holding it in place....

Thanks for your suggestions guys. I think I may have found the problem. I got a small mirror and looked behind the trim in the areas where the clips are. There are thin rubber seals above and below the channel. The rubber got in the way, not allowing the clips to snap on completely on the lower side of the channel. I got a curved pick and pulled the rubber out of the way, it was in between the channel and the clips. In going to take a break, say a prayer, and then go for the slam if a push don't work. My trim is in such good shape externally I want to save it. Those rubber seals are still pliable.

ETA...Success! The slam worked. On good as new.
