clanky passenger window
When the window is down and door is shut, the window obviously is partially unattached somehow and it clanks on the door skin or wotnot in there. It still operates as it should though when up there is still a small rattle when riding over potholes and bumps which we have aplenty.
Any clues as what to expect after I get the panel detached, like a way to coble it up, weld or tie something down?

More than likely one or more of the plastic retainers on the window motor/regulator assembly is cracked/broken or one of the bolts that hold the assembly to the door shell may be loose - but likely it will be the regulator assembly unit.
Replacement of the window motor assembly should get things all tightened up. Common issue.

Hey
Agreed.... I think your window regulator is on its way out ... mine died 3 weeks ago now similar sort of fault at first then just died one day .... poxy little plastic clips split / break ... you cant buy the clips so have to buy the whole window mechenism, so go price one up now before it dies,

You can buy just the plastic clips on EBay. I would recommend replacing the entire regulator before it fails completely and you can't get the window up. They are simple to change and are a known weak point on the S Type/Lincoln LS.
If you only get the regulator without the motor be sure and "clock" the motor properly or the window won't go up all the way. It's cheaper that way as it's rare for the motor to fail. I have become lazy and don't want to screw around clocking the motor so I get the entire thing with the motor. About $150 this way but only $60-$80 for just the regulator.
One further tip. Do NOT slam the door with the window in ANY position but fully up. Everything will last much longer.
