Climate Control Issue

Hi,
I am both new to the world of Jaguar and this forum. I have done LBCs (Little British Cars) , specifically Triumphs for a long time. A 2001 S-Type is definitely no triumph!!!
I am working through a few of the issues. The one I am currently working on appears to be an with the Duel Climate Control Valve. I have searched the forum and not found exactly my issue.
The heat and cooling system work. But only at the extremes of Hi and Lo. If I put the system at either extreme it provides cold or hot air as appropriate. However, adjusting the digital temperature between the extremes does nothing or next to nothing. All the controls on the panel appear to be trying to work correctly, there just is no real change in air temp until I hit the limits, then it works quite well.
So is the problem the valve or a temperature sensor (which I removed the lint from already)? Or something else entirely?
Thanks,
Dave
BTW- I love driving this car, and this forum is fantastic.

Not sure whether this might help - but will post just in case it might. My A/C was intermittantly blowing hot air - the only way I could get cold air back was to turn thermostat to highest setting - or stop the engine, let set about 30 seconds and restart the engine. Jag dealer topped freon - then replaced Climate Control Module - before the following solved the situation:
"Found evap temp sensor was stuck reading one temp and would not fluctuate with temperature demand. Replaced evap temp sensor.
1 - XR83729 Sensor-Evaporator."
Since turning the thermostat setting to the extreme highest temp solved my problem temporarily, maybe your situation might be somewhat related?

Actually I saw your post on a different thread today and tend to agree. I actually disconnected then reconnected the electrical connection and it appears to be working. If this occurs again I will definitely replace that sensor. Called the dealer, this is a $32 including tax item; not bad for Jaguar.
Thanks for the input!!
Thanks for the input!!
Please post the locations of the sensor and its connector (if not next to it).
Also, with it disconnected what does the a/c do? (Max heat? Max cold? Something else?)
Which engine do you have and do you know if that affects the type or location of the sensor?
Any pics whould be helpful.

Sorry, my english is not the best....
Where is the "evap core drain"?
Can you maybe marked it here on this photo, please? :

Patrick, the evaporator core drain is actually inside the passenger compartment. To access it, you need to gain access to the ventilation system. Then, at the bottom of the ventilation system, there will be a drain line. This line runs through the firewall and then makes a 90 degree turn and drains to the ground. If I remember right, it will be in the corner near the passenger feet.
If you are dealing with a mildew type of smell, then you can remove the inlet filter for the ventilation system and then spray some Lysol down the intake and it will drain all the way to the evaporator core drain, getting rid of the blockage.

But i make a mistake and post this quastion in s-type thread, i need this info for the x-type...is there maybe a instruction on JTIS? i cannot found it inside this software.

Patrick, the evaporator core drain is going to be in roughly the same area. My experience with the JTIS is that it contains relatively little information on the X-type as compared to the other models. But, if you do the Lysol trick, it works on the X-Types also. I personally use a special air wand that I made that I can insert into the vent duct and I run it along the bottom of the box till I feel the drain hole. Then I give it a quick burst of air and that is normally enough to clear the plug.
you mean remove the "pollen filter"? or which filter you mean with "inlet filter"? and then spray lysol in the way inside the passenger compartment?
& which lysol product you mean, what is the excactly name?
Thank you, Patrick

Patrick, the filter in question is the one that is buried under the cowl at the base of the windshield. Some people call it an inlet filter, some call it a pollen filter.
As for the Lysol product, I am talking about is the "All Purpose Cleaner with Bleach" in the spray bottle or you can use the concentrated cleaner in the pour bottle. Either will work. if you use the concentrate stuff, then you will need to dilute it down say 50/50 with water and then spray it into the ventilation system through the pollen filter opening. If you think you have sprayed enough, spray a little more. It isn't going to hurt anything. Just the first time you use the A/C, let the system run for a minute or so with the windows open to vent any smells. The Lysol will also kill any mold that is in the drain tube, allowing the evaporator drain pan to drain, getting rid of the moist smell you can get some times.

I really appreciate the input on this. Between this thread and somewhere else on the forum I pretty much narrowed it down to the evaporator sensor. It took a a while to get around to changing the senor but did that last night. Cost for the sensor was less than $20, dealer price. It appears to be working perfectly. Will be going on a short road trip tomorrow.
Thanks Again.
Thanks Again.
