Cold A/C but No Heat!
Hi Everyone,
Still playing with the new to me '02 3.0, since it's been 95+ degrees this weekend I've only had the a/c going but tried the heater this morning and no luck. I gave it a bit to cycle through but nothing...
There's coolant in the overflow tank and can't hear any sloshing sounds (ala Land Rover), would somehting like this be a faulty DCCV or should I be looking elsewhere?
Thanks!
Andrew

That's the opposite problem to the usual one reported.
The failsafe on the valve is open so you should get heat.
I would check for an airlock first, I don't suppose someone has bypassed the valve to solve a heat problem?

Norri,
Anything is possible, I've noticed some screw type hose clamps on some small diameter coolant hoses towards the top of the motor; where should I be looking for a possible bypass?

The two outlets from the valve run up the inside of the passenger wing and connect to metal tubing.
With a 02 you will have the 5 hose valve, so I'm not certain of the layout down at the valve.
I've currently got two pairs of vise grips clamping mine off so that the wife doesn't get toasted until I can get home and fix it.
She hasn't complained since labor day so it must be working.

You probably don't have the same issue, but when I first purchased my S it had no heat. The previous owner had hidden the faulty climate control module by splicing in a small piece of hose with a wooden plug in it. It took me a while to figure that one out!
Before I do any snooping around I wanted to check some obvious things off the list-
I imagine that a cooling system bleed wouldnt be necessary since my temp gauge doesn't show anything out of the ordinary, no spikes at all; am I correct in that assumption?
Going to test if the hoses are warm coming out of the heater core, are faulty heater cores common on S-Types?
Doesnt sound like its the DCCV since I have A/C, is this something that could be eliminated as well?
Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Andrew, your asking for heat when it's 90 degrees outside...do you have the automatic climate control off/disengaged, used the climate mode button (manual operation) and set temp.? The engine coolant temp. gauge measures engine coolant temp. of engine cooling circuit. You're concerned with the cabin heat circuit. Airlock (air bollus) in the heater core route can prevent sufficient hot water to circulate through the heater core. Snoop around some more.
