Default Collision Damage to My S Type

A tractor- trailer backed into my parked S Type yesterday afternoon. It is still mechanically sound, but the headlights are scratched, the grille is cracked badly, and the edges of the hood/bonnet where it goes around the grille is curled up. Insurance adjuster will look at it soon. In New Jersey, insurance companies use the total loss formula where if the cost of repair plus the salvage value is greater than the actual cash value, it will be declared a total loss. I don't know, but with paint, labor, and the aforementioned parts, it might be a close one. I have to wait and see, but I'm guessing this might not turn out well....keeping my fingers crossed...

What a bummer Jimmy. But hey there is a bright side, if the insurance company totals it, this one is available right up the street from you!

Ouch...sorry to hear the bad news.

A friend of mine had an accident last year and his repair estimate passed the total loss amount. He took the car to a local body shop and the body shop manager and the insurance adjuster mutually agreed to fix the car for an amount that was just below the total loss amount. Car came out looking like new at the end.

Good news: the insurance adjuster looked at the car, and it was determined to be $2,077 US (£1285.83) in damage/ repair. I think a new hood/bonnet is in order versus repairing it, likewise the passenger headlights, so we'll see if I can talk to collision repair garage to get a replacement hood and lights ( used but intact would suffice).

Update: Back on the road! Picked up the car from the collision garage today, looks brand new, beautiful job!

They repaired the bonnet, brand new headlights, new front bumper.

I'm so glad it all worked out, I love this car and will keep it on the road as long as possible, of course with the help of the fine folks here at Jaguar Forums!
