Default Complete 2003 S-Type Audio System Revamp - 140w base system - few questions.

Greetings all.

I just picked up my 2nd Jaguar.

This one is a 2003 S-type 3.0.

I already have an X-type 2.5 that I have done extensive audio work to.

Now, As with my X-Type I plan to completely revamp the audio system in the S-type.

Here is what I have so far, and my plan.

Stage 1 - Source selection / Navigation

Headunit - Pioneer Avic D3 / with Navigaiton.

This is a double din unit. Now I have a question, as I haven't attempted to take the S-type apart yet. Does the Double din unit fit into the S- Type with no depth issues - Assuming you get the right dash mounting kit? In the Xtype there is a huge heater box that prohibited mounting a double din head unit flush with the radio stack.

Also for those who have experience with these cars, will the Nexxia two din slot dash kit work, or should I order the double din fascia one.

Second Question - front speakers... I know the 00-02 Stype has a little enclosure in the door, with components of an unknown size. Can anyone shed some light as to what fits in the door? I actually have an MB Quart reference series 5.25 component set new in the box here, but I want to know if I can get a 6.5 in there.

Also anyone know the quick and easy way to run wires from the center console to the trunk? I want to prewire for everything when I pull the headunit out.

Next step will be aftermarket amps, rear stage, subs etc....

Thanks in advance,

George

George, look in the "Brand Review" section under Audio. Look for posts by phd12volt (Jason) he is 1 of the gurus here that will help you out!!! He even mentions to IM him anytime.

Sorry I cannot help other than that.

I looked into changing out the head unit myself. The kit I found was made by Metra. It would have to be painted since it is plain black vs the charcoal color of the dash trim in the Jag. I have had the center stack out to install the accessory FM sat. radio. Not the best solution, but ok for my needs. The cable runs from the front to the back were done through the door sills. All of this was quite easy. If you've had the X center stack apart you will find that the S is almost exactly the same. This also applies to the XJ. The reason the X, S, and XJ all look very similar in the center stack and dash is that they shared many components. As Rick stated, phd12volt is a great resource for audio work. I'm sure he'll chime in here shortly. Here is the Metra instruction sheet. This is accurate when it comes to pulling apart the center stack. It is real easy and only takes a few minutes so you should be able to measure it out pretty easily.
