drive 2 miles to local store. Park inside for 10 minutes. Did not lock the car. Start car and beeping starts.Coming from the trunk. I pulled up the spare and there was almost 2 inches of water! Help!
I park in carpark all day how is this happening?
Most of the time, it is a leaking trunk seal (the black rubber you see when your open the trunk). It can also be caused by water leaking through the taillight assemblies. In either case, water collecting in the trunk can play havoc with the car's electronics, just as you've already experienced....
I advise punching a small hole near the battery so even if you think you sealed the boot and it still leaks, the water will have somewhere to drain onto the ground.
When I bought my 2001 S-Type in 2003, The FIRST thing I did was to take my air hammer with a pointed punch and put a hole in the boot floor next to the battery.
A small hole a few millimeters in diameter won't hurt anything and it might save your electronics.
