Default Cost of 6hp26 reflash

Just phoned my local Jag dealer to ask about a reflash for my transmission, they quoted me 150 UK Pounds - does that sound about right? I thought they were only supposed to quote for 1/2 hour labour or thereabouts???
Seems a bit steep to me.

It's steep to me too but they can quote whatever they like

I'd not go to them.

Why do you believe the car needs a reflash?

I suspect I may end up elsewhere!
The car sometimes lurches in to first. It seems to be worst if I slow down by allowing the car to coast to a junction and then try to accelerate away. Sometimes it hesitates before going in to gear and then jerks as it takes up drive. It recently had an oil and filter change which seemed to make things a bit better but this jerkiness / lurching still remains. just for completeness, it does not have the 2-1 downshift lurch, all other gears engage and change smoothly.
Thanks for the responses.

That's the signs of classic 'lurch'. The chances of your car not already having the latest and greatest software patch are small. The likelihood of permanently solving the problem by reflashing are even smaller.

A small percentage of cars , mine amongst them, resist all known efforts to eliminate the lurch and I've learned to just drive around it.

I'd save my money and not bother with a reflash.

hmm... depends when it last had any reflashing done... realistically at a dealer... may well never have had any. Dealers do the minimum that MUST be done at the maximum price here.

That's a good point and Jaguar should be able to tell you if the car has had the latest TCM flash done.

Can you call the dealer and check? They might require a scan to see all the software versions on your car.

I have no idea if it has been reflashed but I doubt it. The previous owner had not had it done, I can't see anything in the service history to suggest it has been done. The dealer did say that they could not guarantee it making any difference at all. It does it quite infrequently so it's not a massive issue but it's annoying none the less. I now have the parkbrake fault intermittently and my a/c hot on one side issue has come back. The battery is fine, I did an all day trickle charge and it holds at about 12.5V now. I did a recal on the epb but it's still misbehaving so that will have some attention when the weather gets warmer. The DCCV valve is getting changed on Tuesday, just hoping it's the valve and not the wiring or control box, won't know until I get to the valve, which is a bit of a pain.

There is an excellent Jaguar dealership approximately 75 miles west of us that was willing to negotiate with me on the ZF Adaptations Drive Cycle reflash. Our local dealership quoted me $250. The more flexible dealership accommodated my driving in from out-of-town by quoting me $175 (their normal price was $225). And they have two master techs who always spend the necessary time with me to explain their findings and recommendations. Well worth the drive in my opinion. This was in July 2013 on my wife's 2006 XK8 with the same ZF 6HP26 unit. The reflash flat-out fixed the intermittent rough shifting she had been complaining about for a couple of months. Not a peep out of her since the reflash was completed....

Ask for a discount. You may be granted one with very little negotiation required....
