Default Cougg splutter backfire..rich petrol smell..

Optimeyes , Today 04:00 AM
I recently put new radiator hoses on my 2002 S type and accidently broke the Vacume pipe that runs along the engine to a shoulder at the back ..i replaced it with rubber hose and jubilee clips, Is this OK?. Also ever since doing this I have had problems with missfiring and lack of power and smells verh very rich using loads of petrol...could this be why, or is something else wrong..

Sounds likely the problem. Best to fit the right pipe.

If left running like that you'll probably destroy one or both cats.

Take a look at the far end of run containing the hose you replaced. The portion you replaced is probably just fine. This current fault is likely to be something else that got disturbed, i.e. a flexible section on the far end of the rigid pipe to which you installed the new piece of hose.

These engines are notorious for vacuum leaks caused by old flex couplings giving up the ghost. Find and fix the fault and you should be good as new.

New vacuum pipe fitted now and disconnected earth for about an hour. Everything is much calmer...still a little bit of missfire..but nothing like it was...a lotsmoother running too. But no power .....
Can anyone tell me what the shoulder where the vacuum pipe goes into the block at the back is supposed to be like..because all I have is a collar of rubber pipe sticking out of the block and the shoulder of the vacuum pipe stuffed into it..not confident it's right, and is nothing like the other plugs that are for breather pipes, although I didn't have a single problem before all this came about so it must have worked somehow...anyone any suggestions.I'm getting stressed lol.....
.thanks.

If I understand you correctly, you must be referring to the hose fitted to the crankcase breather underneath the lower inlet manifold. There are no clamps, or other securing devices, used to hold this hose in place.

As mentioned earlier, any misfire can cause irreparable damage to the catalytic converters. Do not operate the vehicle if the MIL is flashing as catalyst damage is occurring.
