Default Cracked EGR Pipe

Does anyone have any ideas for fixing a cracked EGR pipe rather than getting it replaced.

My pipe has a crak about half way thrugh in the bellows section. It looks like it can be braised. Has anyone tried this or had success before in the actual repair of the pipe. I do not want to replce it if it can be fixed even better than a new pipe.

Thanks

I have never heard of anyone doing it. Makes me wonder how it cracked though. You could always try, but what would the heat cycling do to it?

Several people have reported leaks in this tube but the repair has always been just to replace it. Especially on the STR because it's hard and expensive to get to.

I would consider how much you will save with the home brew repair compared to it failing and you having to go in again to fix it. I think I would just buy the tube and fix it right. Consider changing the EGR valve too for the same reason. There are a LOT of gaskets to change every time the SC has to come off.

We have now heard that the tube part number might have changed. Hopefully with an improved part but it's not clear yet.

This problem is still pretty rare but I think this along with EGR valve problems will get more common as the cars increase in age.

Since you are there be sure and change the hose under the SC if it has not been changed before.

The egr transfer pipe has the bellow type section to allow for expansion as the pipe heats up with the temp of the exhaust gas,I have braised/welded these sections on many a diff vehicle petrol & diesel,it always ends up with the same result,it just cracks further up the bellows over time.save yourself the hassle of doing it all again and replace it,check for any mis-alignment issues with the old pipe, you never know a previous owner could of had it all apart and reassembled it,badly. The valley coolant hose is a must to replace, doing mine at the moment,it cost £14 from the dealers but £200 to purchase all the relevant gaskets to be replaced, well worth the time/cost and effort though.

That's a good price on all the gaskets as I have right at $400 in my set.

I now plan to get the EGR tube and EGR valve and add that to my list to change when I do the SC hose.

I hope we can figure out what's going on with the EGR tube because someone else is reporting it's part number has changed and the new one he got does not fit??
