Default Cracking dash

I swear I have only had this car for 4 months and the dash is all cracking to pieces. The plastic part where the defroster comes from cracked in two places, I have a nice large crack going from left to right where my passenger side airbag is, and now one of my middle vents has a crack in the bottom.

Funny you mentioned this! My 2005 STR after some dealer repair work came back with the passenger side wood cracked and the center A/C vent broken. They denied doing any damage and they have been very good to deal with in the past. So I replaced it all myself.

The center vent was cheaper new ($100) than what I could find one used for!! So be careful when buying used parts!! I had both dash wood pieces refinished and they came out great.

The defroster plastic is usually broken when someone tries to take it out without removing the "A" pillar covers first. They are locked together with plastic tabs and the pillar covers must come off first.

It was funny, when I bought the car there were no cracks. I never tried to take the pieces out, I just heard a loud pop one day when taking a corner in a "spirited" manner.

I've got the same problem on the 03 STR. Huge split front to back right in the middle, happened in the middle of the night just a few weeks ago. I think this is a common problem with the "demister panel" apparently the plastic degrades in UV sunlight and becomes brittle.
I would like to replace mine but I'm waiting for warmer weather.
Anyone know how much the demister panel cost?

How about amour all? The Alkie in it tends to actually damage plastic and the dash pad. No dash should ever be exposed to a "conditioner" of that like

My 03 STR has one large horizontal crack from end to end on the passenger side. No other cracks so far *knock on really thin wood*

How much did the dash refinish cost?? I just had my shifter surround crack when we were having some crazy temp changes here. Might wait to get it fixed if its too much since I'm living on students wages since I just started college. I may do some research and see what all I would need to maybe attempt it myself. Going to google now.

no its breaks all on its own, its plastic and the only place plastic lives forever is in a landfill...theyre avail new still but I would either put a dash pad over it or epoxy and paint. problem is it sits in the sun baking for years and if its cracking already, its just gonna crack in other areas......

Another idea that popped up is covering it in a material such as alcantara.

vance580;
I have posted this before but the main point is to deal with them direct. They are factory authorized and the Jaguar dealer used them when I got mine redone. Going thru the local Jaguar dealer I had both dash pieces refinished for about $300.
