Default Cross referencing FORD and Jaguar parts

Ok I've seen some members talk about the cross reference parts. I called 2 Ford dealers and they said they have no way of doing it. Is this true? If so how are you guys finding these parts and cross referencing them?

It's done mostly by experience. You cannot expect Ford personnel to have access to Jaguar part numbers and vice-versa. There are some members here who have decades of experience in the car repair business. Their research and experimentation is primarily responsible for the Ford/Jaguar parts match-ups that have been published here thus far....

Sometimes you can figure a part HAS to be available from Ford (sumpl plug, as a simple case) then drop by (a site or parts dept) and find the part based on where it is physically on the car. Other times you may be able to get the # from the old part that's in the style xxx-xxxxx-xx (called a WERS? or something) and find it that way.

Most of the cross referenced parts between Jaguar and Ford (I find) are existent between the 1999.5 - 2002 MY's. not too sure about 2003 and up. I know I take the actual part numbers and Google it.

Most cross referencing I have seen is by experience here on the forum.

You are correct in assuming that there is more parts-sharing with Ford in the pre-2003 S-Type models. But the 2003-and-newer S-Type models still have some Ford parts in them, especially the V6 cars. After all, that engine is a somewhat hopped-up Ford Duratech....

Holy thread revival, batman! Came across this while unsuccessfully searching for something totally different.

FYI there is a Ford cross-referencing tool called MPNR (Master Part Number Registry) that has been around for donkeys years. It is not nice to use - you have to convert the Jaguar service part number in to a Ford Engineering part number, and then from that you can cross reference Ford Service, Land Rover etc. I suspect it is more of an engineering tool rather something dealers would have access to.

I've used it a few times to get engineering part numbers, which is what I need if I want to look up some CAD for parts. Astonishingly the CAD still exists for some stuff from the early 2000s, I've done this to look up some breather hoses to check compatibility (or lack of as it turned out), window mechs (X200 vs. X350) and brake parts.

You may find the attached pdf on How to Decipher FoMoCo Part Numbers useful even though it is a Ford document.
