Hi there,

Recently had "cruise not available" fault and "ABS fault" occur simultaneously on my 2006 S-type. Any ideas? Car beeps upon start up and faults flash quickly, but the indicator light does no remain on.

These fault displays are typical when your battery begins to die. May be time for a new one. Are you still in warranty?

If you're curious, Search will get you lots of posts about weird problems turning out (usually) to be a failing battery.

 

Same thing happened to my 06 S 4.2 last week. We rarely get snow/cold weather in
this area...50 miles South of Victoria, BC...but last week we had about 5 inches of wet, soggy stuff. (BLAME CANADA) The next day the temps went down into the teens
(F) and those same messages appeared. My WAG is that a sensor somewhere in the
brake system got wet and froze, giving a bogus message to the ABS system. When it
warmed up, the messages disappeared. If it's possible to get your car into a warm garage for a few hours, the messages might disappear. Or, you could try a 'hard'
reboot, which I did a few years ago during a cold spell in Nevada. Disconnect both
battery cables (in the trunk) for at least 5 minutes; then, before reconnecting, touch
them together for a second or two and reconnect. That cleared these messages for
me in the past.

Good luck, eh? Anytime it gets cold down here, we blame Canada. Cold air sinks,
right? And it sinks right down into the US of A.

Although when my 5 year old factory battery failed, Joyces Jag was outside not overnight but a few hours in 17 degree weather on a clear day. I promptly replaced the battery and have had no further issues.

 

Hook a code reader up to it. One that is able to read ABS codes. It sounds fishy to me that it only does it during the cars "system check" (initial start up). If the sensors were not working or sending false data the lights and warning would most likely stay on. So I would also read up on the proper way to check for a failing battery.
