Grab firmly in the middle with thumb and forefinger and just pull it out.
It is not secured in any way other than being a snug fit.

Open the center armrest then just firmly pull out the plastic cup holders. Make sure you're gripping only the plastic cupholder and not the felted liner of the armrest compartment.

Sometimes its easier to have the armrest open fully it can catch on the front lip.

Also if anyone has ever spilled anything in the cup holder area soda / coffee... It can get stuck use a small flat bladed screwdriver and pry it up from the rear (rear facing in the car center console side. you wont damage anything but it could just be really sticky from spilled drinks over the years...
