Default Cylinder order question. s type r

Hi all! Quick Q! What is the cylinder numerical order on an 02/03 S type R (v8 supercharged, 4.2 i believe). I own an x type but my father has the s type r and apparently recently had a misfire in cylinder 7 with about 6 different codes popping.

Ive seen some charts state its-

Front of car
^
[ 5 ] [ 1 ]
[ 6 ] [ 2 ]
[ 7 ] [ 3 ]
[ 8 ] [ 4 ]
Fire wall

And also.....

Front of car
^
[ 2 ] [ 1 ]
[ 4 ] [ 3 ]
[ 6 ] [ 5 ]
[ 8 ] [ 7 ]
Fire wall

So just wanted to get some clarification from the experts

Also, once the cylinder is corrected (hopefully something simple) and the codes are reset, will that take the vehicle out of limp mode (restricted performance) or do i have to take it to jaguar for them to flash/reset it with a certain machine?

Thanks for your time and patience all!

Here is the chart, your second diagram is correct.

The limp mode should clear once the fault is removed.

It's likely a bad coil but would be wise to post full list of codes.

It won't come out of RP if the fault remains. Clearing codes (any cheap OBD tool will
do or even disconnect battery) isn't a fix of course!

When looking at plug well 7, check no damp/oil/dirt in there. Have a good look at cover and area around it for signs of water etc as the seal to the glass can leak, for example.

Thanks for the replies gentlemen! Very much appreciated.

The codes pulled are:
P0307
P1316
P0207
P1647
P1000

I looked them up and most of them seem to be associated with the possible bad coil in cylinder 7. I also know the car had (I think) an o2 sensor go bad that I have to attempt to replace so that code may be included in there (I think the P1647) but don't know which sensor it is, how to narrow it down to which, or if I should just replace all 4??

The plan of attack is to replace the one coil in cylinder 7 and upgrading/changing ALL the spark plugs since ill be in there anyways (haven't changed the spark plugs since buying the vehicle recently). Is there anything I should be looking for while doing so or something I should consider before attempting like maybe changing all the coils? Just wondering...

Thanks again for your time and help everyone.

P1000 is just an indication that OnBoard Monitoring Tests have not been completed since the last memory clear.

Here's the Jaguar DTC listing of possible causes for the remaining codes shown (P0300 included because it's cross referenced by P0307):

I've never been one for throwing unnecessary money at cars and replacing four coils appears OTT on the evidence so far.

I'd check O2 wiring but probably it's the sensor. Do not fit the wrong one under any circumstances!! You do not want the costly pain.

Check plug well for cyl 7 and if clean swap coil with another to see if fault moves or replace with a proper brand coil. Aftermarket cheapies give grief.

All the codes are in JTIS and also in the PDF in the stickies - both free downloads on here.

Looks more like an injector problem than a coil problem with those codes. I'd check the wiring to the injector and make sure the connector isn't corroded and such. Maybe an animal got in there and chewed some wiring to the injector and the O2 sensor.

Default Update...

Hey guys, quick mid process update.

I pulled the coil and spark plug for cylinder 7 today and it was drenched in oil and the plug was definitely corroded and burnt somewhat with what appeared to be slug on the gap/plug, which caught me off guard. I left that cylinder alone and moved to change the spark plugs in the other cylinders (regular maintenance) but when pulling the plug from cylinder 1, same thing. Some oil, not as much as cylinder 7 but still definitely not normal.

What do you guys think is the problem, what could have happened internally, and what should i do from here?

Thank you guys again for being so much help! It really is appreciated!!

It's not a big deal. You need to change the cam cover gaskets and the plug well gaskets. They come as a set.

I would change all the plugs too. Right now I am not sure how many coils to replace? Maybe change the gaskets and plugs and see if that fixes the misfires?

As was posted you might have an injector problem but fix what you know is bad and then see what you have. When the car is misfiring it will set a lot of codes. Some will disappear and never return when the misfire is fixed.

I sure hope its not a big deal! You helped ease my anxiety somewhat.

Im not an EXPERT mechanic and actually more towards the beginner side of the spectrum but do you think I could accomplish replacing these with my limited knowledge and a pretty basic socket/wrench set? Would I have to take a lot of stuff out to remove both valve cover/cam covers (are they the same thing)? Do I need to remove the super charger to accomplish this and should both sides be done at one time (I would assume so...)?

Also, this is the only "set" I could find. Is this the kit you spoke of? And are the plug well gaskets included in this specific kit?

I couldn't find it anywhere else. Does that price also look about right? Sorry for the 21 question ordeal. Just trying to learn what is going on here.

Thanks for your time!

Gaudin list it for $43.54 it looks like it might include the rings, give them a call and ask.

Thanks! Ill call first thing Monday morning. If the other side doesn't present oil where the spark plugs are, I should assume I don't need to change the gasket on that side do I?
