Here's a couple of pictures that I took when I was checking out the condition of my rear brake pads. Pads looked OK, however, I noticed this part with some very bad looking rubber on it. Looks like some kind of rear suspension part and it's right behind the rear caliper. You can see in one of the pictures the rear shock. I'm sure this is a common thing with these cars, maybe someone will know what it is and if I need to do anything about it real soon. I have owned this car for over 15 years, it has 56K on it and it is a 2003 S-Type. The car is obviously not driven very often and when it is, it's usually when it is not going to rain. Incredible the things that have gone wrong with this car, I'd sell it in a heart beat, but my wife loves the car.
Those are the drop links for the anti-roll bar. There is one on each corner of the vehicle. Quite common for the boots to perish given the age of the vehicle.

You should inspect all the other bushes and joints, especially in the front suspension. The upper and lower front ball joints and inner bushes on the upper and lower arms are also prone to wear.
The anti-roll bar links are not as critical as are the ball joints, tie rod ends and arm bushes, but it would be best to change them all at the same time and have the vehicle aligned.
