Do I need shocks or struts?
Hello, I have a 2000 Jaguar S-Type, 3.0 V6 base. I need to replace my rear suspension parts. My question is..... I need to know whether I have shocks or struts or maybe both on my rear suspension. I have been to a few different websites (ex. Rockauto.com) and they sell both shocks and struts for my vehicle, but I do not know what I need for the rear. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you for your time. Also any information on what kind of shocks/struts I will need for the front suspension as well will help immensely.
Strut is a flexible term - it could mean a shock absorber (more correctly "damper") with a spring already "wrapped" around it or just the damper part (in which case it is basically a damper with seats for the spring to sit in).

They are very noisy and anytime I go over a bump you can clearly hear the shocks. Its sounds like the air in the shocks is completely gone. It makes almost a hydraulic sound, it's pretty obvious that it is the "shock/strut". And when the car is resting, if you push down on the trunk it bounces around before it settles. Definitely need to be replaced. Just wasn't sure with what part. thanks for the responses guys.
