2003 s type message says drivers door is open when it is closed. Is the latch bad or is it electrical?

 

The door ajar switch is in the latch and either stuck or defective. Quick fix, spray some lube into it and then open and close the door firmly a few times.

If this doesn't work then its off with the door card and a new latch.

I had this issue with my Audi A3, there's a small microswitch inside the driver door locking mechinism when triggers when the door is closed telling the car the door is closed.

These little switches either get gunk around them stopping them working but in most cases, the little plastic switch wears away.

I had to remove my lock, open it up and glue a extra bit of plastic on to the switch so it can actually press down.

in the mean time, be carefull not to leave you keys in the car and close the door becuase the car will not recognise the door was opened and closed and will automatically lock the doors, with your keys inside. this is a common fault among most cars, not just jags.

 

While you are at it please do the other doors and the trunk/hood. I have found a little bit of lubrication keeps it working much better.

Don't forget the gas tank flap as that is a known problem if not greased up once in a while.
