Default Droplets of Oil on the floor - below the car center

I noticed today where I park the car an area stained by oil on the ground.
Not much, but definitely new.
It is around the area of the car center, not the motor. Maybe the Gear rear side or the area where the Gear Shift lever is.
Before going to the garage (will do so soon if required) , any ideas what may cause those stains and what may be involved in fixing the leak?

It could very well be your ZF transmission sleeve beginning to leak. If so, you must drain the ATF, drop the pan, and change the sleeve before you can refill your transmission with fresh ATF....

How many miles on the odometer?

How many miles on the odometer?

Hi, I'm wanting to replace the trans fluid on my 2005 S-Type 4.2L V8 with 87K almost 88K, as I'm thinking the previous owner/owners never replaced the trans fluid with fresh stuff..Anyways question is how does one know what the proper fluid is? What do you recommend?

Thanks

I'll take it to the service to do that, question is if it can drain suddenly or during a next 100km drive...

The car has 90,000 miles...

The only "proper" fluid is the ZF fluid and the best place to get is probably The CTSC - ZF Parts however several people have used alternatives successfully, a search will provide the details.

No you won't lose your fluid suddenly, but don't leave it too long as it's hard to tell how much the level has dropped.

Thanks. Meanwhile - I found fantastic thread
--> ZF transmission oil and sleeve change writeup with pics FAQ
Started by CCC, that explain in details what need to be done and how.
Important - since if I do it at my local service I need to make sure he follow the right filling procedure.
Anyway - I'll first go to the Jag service center to have a quote for the whole - probably no surprises there regarding the costs...

Thanks again!

The level check procedure is crucial, so make sure whoever does it is familiar.

Yeshhh, $241.95...is 6 liters enough anyways ? What would you guys recommend I get the trans fluid replaced now..87K almost 88K...or once I hit the 90K ? I have no idea if it was previously replaced or not..kinda doubt it...but I only drive the car about 30-50 miles a week or so no more than 70 for sure
Thanks

I'll probably do an ATF drain-and-fill on my perfectly-functioning 2005 S-Type 3.0 at 85,000 miles. It currently has 81,400 miles. If my ZF sleeve does not develop the dreaded leak by then, I will not drop the pan and will refill with Mercon SP ATF. If my ZF sleeve starts to leak prior to then (causing me to have to drop the pan in order to change it), I'll go with the CTSC kit and therefore stay with Lifeguard 6....

These decisions are based on the ZF research I've been doing since early 2010. Your mileage may vary....

I noticed that a kit is provided with 7 Liters of oil. see:
Transmission Filter & Oil Kit - LR007474KIT | Jaguar X150 XK - XKR, Jaguar XJ - X350 - XJR, Jaguar XJ 2010 on, Jaguar S Type, Jaguar XK8 - XKR, Jaguar XF - Sportbrake | Jaguar | British Parts UK

Maybe last liter is just-in-case.

However - I am looking where to get the sleeve - can't find it in my regular online shops, as well as the nuts. Links appreciated.. 2007 S-Type 3.0L

Check here Oil change kit for 6HP26/28/32 and click the recommended products tab.

Or try here http://www.bristoltransmissions.co.u...?id_product=12

Just be careful with the BMW kit.

Does it have the plastic pan with integrated filter? The ZF was/is used on lots of cars and some have steel pans with separate filters and others like our S Types have the plastic all in one pan.

If you are changing the filter do the sleeve too and replace the pan bolts with the upgraded ones.

You can get the sleeve from here:
OE Jaguar Trans Valve Body Sleeve C2C39599 | eBay

Also: Before you change the ZF trans fluid, please make sure to check your transmission cooler lines to see if they are weeping. It's a common problem apparently. I just had mine changed a month ago.

Very good point about the transmission lines!

It's now becoming very common as our cars age. We have had some great repair techniques to avoid changing the entire lines out.

Congrat's, I joined the club of leaking gear sleeve.
Here is the pic - taken at the service center.
Also - the pic of the oil stain on the floor - only few days old and growing. So the leak is not too minor and need to be taken care.

One question - and I already read the threads in the subject:
The gear specialist say his standard transmission oil is 100% ok for the gear.
He swear and will warrant the oil (I assume excluding parts if the gear fail).
He say he is using the oil in each and every gear so far - no issues ever.
It is a transmission oil from one of the largest manufacturer here.
???

Can it be so? I wonder if I shall order 7 Liters of ZF original oil including international DHL and custom charges or take his word. 7L oil can cost 150$ here.

I will use the recommended ZF LifeGuard 6 oil, I talked to ZF rep and they say it should be used. Anyway - for the prive difference why bother for alt..

Appreciate opinions.

If done correctly it requires only 6 litres to fill.

Default Done! today the pan, sleeve and oil were replaced

@ 92,000 miles, I had today the oil -pan-sleeve replaced.
1.5 hour work at the shop.
I had purchased 7 original ZF Lifeguard 6 oil cans of 1L.
Actually - only 6 were used. I have now one spare... maybe for 200,000 miles oil change?

First ride on the Jag after the oil change- smoooooth gear shifts!
It seems (and I felt it) that lack of oil due to the leak - affected the gear shift and it became rough at start from stand, and specifically while down shifting 3-2-1. Now is so smooth - remarkable.
I purchased the pan, sleeve, oil cap and 21 screws at "BritishCars", but they all came from csts ...
The oil was purchased locally from an independent importer, since local ZF rep only sell 18L cans. Too expensive for one flush.

The shop oil fill pump is a pneumatic type and we put all 7 liters inside. After ending the fill procedure, about 1.2 liters of new oil were recovered from the reservoir back to the original bottles, didn't go to the gear. It seems fine to me.

The old pan had little residues and the oil was black (and clear), but the mechanic say it was in relatively good condition.

If I was not reading the Forums here, I would probably had done the mistake to let the car get fixed in some gear shop, but all say they use their "regular spec" oil. I was not easy with that declaration, as I saw ZF saying the only oil for 6H26 gear is ZF or direct equivalent. I don't know how bad it can be for the gear, but certainly a damage will occur enough time after their warranty expire...
