Default Engine Light - "Multiple Misfires"

My engine light turned on last week, and my mechanic was nice enough to read the codes gratis: "Multiple misfires, cylinders 2 and 6" he reported. He reset the light and it has remained off for 48 hours.
The engine seems to perform well, although I notice a little jumpiness at idle speed.
Has anyone else received this error code and determined the cause?
Thank you.

Hello harmonica blower. Please post the year and motor of your S-Type. The codes and misfire may be indicative of faulty coil(s) or the spark plug well gaskets allowing oil to seek around coils' electrode.

It really is worth getting a cheap code reader.
There's a huge thread here
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/g...-%2A%2A-33347/
to find on that works reliably with your car.
I use the Android 'Torque' app on the XK

I would bet on bad coils. I finally got around to replacing all of mine and she is driving much better now.

Coils on the cylinders that show misfires and random misfires is normally from fueling issues like dirty injectors and/or winter blend fuel/ethanol. We have alot of issues here in houston with warm spells in the winter when winter blends are at the gas stations, even no starts. I just rebuilt the carb on my race car last night and the ethanol just oxidizes the aluminum inside the carb. Hate this crap shoved down the public throat and the money it ends up costing people that dont even know it.

Default Engine and Year

Sorry for not posting this information (although it is in my signature): 2005 S-Type V8, normally aspirated.

Do any of these possible issues require immediate attention? I don't mind how the car runs, but I don't want to cause any lasting harm.

Misfires kill catalytic convertors and since your in smogafornia. You wont pass emmisions testing when they fail, same on misifres. And in cali you cannopt legally buycheaper cats and used ones have to be certified. New are very expensive so not taking care of this sooner rather than later can cost alot more that youll save by putting it off

Default Two Stalls!

Uh Oh. On my way into the parking lot my car stalled twice and flashed a number of error messages.
The last time this happened to me, the battery needed replacing, but I have an almost new battery, now.
After each stall, I turned off the car for 10 seconds and it restarted fine.
Could a bad coil cause this?

Though I'd check that "new battery" to see if it's behind the error messages, also check that the battery terminals are snug and that there is no moisure in the trunk.

+1 and at least also check the ground wire where it fastens to the body is making an excellent, clean dry contact.

Worth getting an OBD tool (see General Tech forum) in case you have any codes.

Default Throttle Body?

Took it back to the mechanic. Code says "Throttle Sensor".

Sorry but that's too vague to be any use. What was the actual code? Really, it's cheaper and faster to get your own OBD tool...

+2. Throttle Sensor can be set off by drop in voltage too. Get a proper read of codes.

Yes I see that now Steve, still think it's clearer if put in the signature section, like most of us do.

No worries, Dave. Given all the excellent free advice that I've received here, stating my car's model and year is the least I can do.
My mechanic has checked all battery cables (his first guess as well), and it convinced it is the throttle body. Has quoted me $1100.
I will look into my own ODB reader. Sadly, I don't own a Windows laptop or an Android phone (I use Mac OS and iOS), so some of the cheaper options are not available to me.

FYI. You can get your codes scanned for free at Autozone! If you hold in the trip reset button when you turn the ignition on you should see active codes I believe.
