Can anyone direct me to the location of the 4.0L engine number and what, if any, engine covers, etc. must be removed to access it?

 

I suspect Search will provide the answer or look for the various tech docs

Especially check threads about the chain tensioners as the engine # is relevant then.

 

Thanks for the advice. Already tried Search with Engine Number, Engine Number Location, 4.0 Engine Number Location and Chain Tensioners. Lots of information under Chain Tensioners, but no guidance to where the engine number is located except for a remark about how it was "nearly impossible to find". I'll try calling the dealer on Monday.

 

The engine number on the AJ28 is stamped on the engine block in front of the thermostat housing.

The AJ26/27/28 all have the engine serial number stamped in the same location.

 

on a 2002 it’s next to the block drain plug, left side of car above the motor mount
