Hi,
I have a warranty report for a 1997 Xk8.

It shows the following.

Description: Replacement Date:
Engine number CA9611271025
Engine number 0601E1859 26-Aug-2002


Does this mean the engine has been replaced with a new one around 2002?
Does the new engine has Nikasil ?
And does the new engine has 3rd gen timing tensioners ?

I am guessing 2002 is too early for these, how does one find out for sure?

The engine serial numbers I am familiar with is like the original one: 9611271025.

That translates to an engine manufacture date of Nov 27, 1996 at 10:25am (YYMMDDHHMM). That format was in use at least through the '02 MY.

The replacement serial number does not compute.

Nikasil went away in August '00 and plastic tensioners left in August '01 but without an engine production date we are just guessing about yours. Replacement engines could have been in the supply line for some time.

Perhaps the dealer can translate the numbers since reading it off the block is nearly impossible.

I just called the dealer and all they came up with is the same number in their records. "0601E1859"
The dealer service guy didn't know how to translate this engine number to anything more useful, unfortunately.
