Default Engine Replacement

I was wondering if a 2003ish S-type R tranny and engine will fit in a 2000 S-type 4.0, Old girl has 137,000 miles on her and i think is heading south. I have alot of money tied up in my flat black paint job so i dont know what to do and am looking at engine swaps. Any suggestions?

Though you're desire to beast out yer ole "S" sounds cool...Due to numerous changes performed post 2000, you'll also face numerous hurdles in modifications to make it all come together, i.e donor STR ECU/wire harness, ZF tran. to hold up behind 400+ hp and trq. Why don't ya just pop in a low mileage motor with a 50 hp nitrous shot, or better yet, while she's still running, trade her in for an STR.

you can make any engine and gearbox fit in any car it just depends how much money and time you have. I think it would be a hel of a lot cheaper and a lot less hassle to just buy an early S-Type R.

I know next to nothing about the S-Type but a few reasons why it might not work, You would have to consider all the matched electronic control modules that you would need to go with the new engine and box, would the later engine and box and electrinics work with the pre facelift dash ? if it did fit in and you got all the wireing done, would you need keys and fobs programming ? would the suspension be up to it, and the brakes ? what about the fuel pumps ? are the drive shafts up to it ?

My head hurts just thinking about it !!!!!!

How much was the paint job ??

If you want to keep the body with its paint, unless you're rich just swap in another 4.0 motor.

The changes are even worse than already posted....

thanks figured it was worth a shot to ask, ive seen a few str that were wrecked but still good for what i was wanting to do so i was thinking of buying one. FRom what i have read it seems that the str engine/tranny were more reliable than the 4.0. i have already shelled out close to 4k for a transmission rebuild about 20 months ago and am worried about something else going wrong if i do spend another 4k or whatever putting a 4.0 in.
