Default Exhaust options for 3.0 v6

Hey everyone I'm wondering how to get the best sound from my car. Would y'all suggest straight piping, bolt on exhaust, etc... Let me know ur personal experience and if any of u know the power gains or could tell that would help. Also if u have any sound clips that'd be sweeeet! Thanks, JON

Hi JON. Welcome to Jag Forum. Whatever you do, avoid under-exhausting the V6, cause she'll emmit an unrelenting interior drone so hineous that over time has transformed men with sturdy in character into the likes of Jack Nicholson in the Shining. Opening the V6 exhaust too wide invites loss of precious low end torque too. You may begin with a set of hi-flow cats alone and see how she sounds. The note will be noticeably authorative with much crispier throttle response. You may wish to stop here. If ya want more then remove the center resonator. Here things become more interesting...way more bark. Another route is to maintain the stock cats, remove center resonator, opting for a pair of Borla or Magnaflow rear boxes and see where this brings ya. Move slowly, allow some time to lapse, seeing if you enjoy changes in note.

Mina might have an exhaust system as well. Granted, your options are pretty limited though. I would concur with bfgross's recommendation to not go overboard.

The airbox mod looks like the cheapest mod, assuming it's still available. If you go all out and do both you may find some issues with the ECU.

Wish you were closer. I'd buy the stock right muffler from you.

Whatever you do, do not just remove the mufflers and replace it with straight piping. Sounds horrible. Trust me!

Yep, did something similar to that on an 02 3.0 X-Type. Sounded like the high pitched-buzzing "Muffler fell off" sound.

I had the Borla's on my 3.0 Sport - and the tone going that way ALONE, I thought - was perfect. Nice, deep, yet "subtle" baritone to it, that I would fear (as others have stated) if over-magnified, would cross that boarder of possibly diminishing (if not even detrimental) returns.

My .02 - Don't just jump in and do anything straight-away drastic. I'd suggest you start with the Borla's (very NICE piece of kit to add to these baby's BTW) first, on their own BEFORE you chop the center under-cabin resonator. See if you like that well enough just as is that way (I do/did). Also - the 3.0 6 in this car actually likes/needs a little back-pressure. Your ECU is going to try to "adjust" against it (to within its limits/parameters) as well, and without an accompanying (and learned) re-flash, you will in actually probably NOT realize much benefit (if any at all - and possibly even worse) if you just go total "chop-chop", otherwise "as-is".

I may still have my stock mufflers somewhere in storage, if you are seriously looking/in need...

Hi
That's true don't go for straight pipe, it will sounds too savage. A friend of mine did that to his car. It's very loud. I have a Romulus by Remus silencer, it sounds really nice by adding more rumble and removing the vacuum cleaner sound. And it's still very discreet. Even tho it sounds nice it's too discreet.
So in my opinions you better go for a sport aftermarket silencer and then go for something else.

Feel free to PM me for some videos of the Remus exhaust.

Ps: oh **** that's an old thread.
