Default Fact or Fiction

Hello, I purchased an upgraded supercharger pulley from Mina Gallery. My mechanic said upgrading the pulley with put more stress and wear on the motor.
What are your thoughts ??

Anything that ups performance will put more strain on the engine ?

This is a fact of life when tuning cars past the manufacturers original power levels.

Whether this is an issue will depend on the current health of the engine.

Lots of people run the smaller top pulley without any problems, but it depends what you are going to use the car for ?

If it is going to live its life at the drag strip, you may want to upgrade the cooling system.

For use on the road, you should be fine ?

I did this on mine last year and before doing so I researched all the threads on here. I suggest that you do the same. One issue is that my mechanic suggested a solid coupler. That does make a bit of noise I wasn't expecting but I researched that as well.
There are several people who have gone down this road, one is in Australia. Keep an eye for his posts because he has a lot of experience. I was rescuing my car from the under the SC hose failure and I did almost everything while I was doing that. It turns out that my engine is in superb condition, my mechanic was flabbergasted how good it looked under the valve covers. I don't drive mine very much but I will be this summer and fall. Look for my posts on these subjects. That repair is a major PITA but the guy who did mine went through everything and the car now feels like the hand of god is pushing your backside. Obvious exaggeration ...

And of course time will tell but then I'm not a youngster always flooring it from lights or stop signs. Although I did manage to out drag an unmarked state cop who tried to pass me on the right from the merge lane. I got pulled over but no tickie.

There's a guy located in Pennsylvania who manufactures and sells SC parts on eBay and he had a very nice pulley for substantially less than the Minna one. My mechanic was suitably impressed by it and ordered one for another customer car, XJR, that was getting the same job done as mine but he had 100K on that car. I'll try and find that supplier or it might already be in my post.

The motor itself can easily handle the gains you would get from the upgraded pulley. You'll want to have your mechanic check the integrity of all the cooling hoses and fittings though, squeezing more performance out of the motor will put more stress on the cooling system which is already well-known for developing leaks with higher mileage.

Are you looking to increase performance for 0-60 drags or highway pulls? If drag, you'll probably want to get sticker tires for the rear before anything else as even bone-stock STRs have issues getting the power down as they have open differentials. Much of the gains you would get bumping up the performance numbers would be lost due to wheelspin off the line.
